When I visit a new city my favorite thing to do is find the super cool, but less popular places. Unexpectedly we discovered that at the Disney Boardwalk in Orlando. I was sure it would be so busy since it has the name DISNEY in it, but when we arrived there were only a few other people strolling around the boardwalk. It was SO charming and fun to explore, and I loved that we had it all to ourselves.
I am not sure if it is always like that, or if it was just a fluke. But in any case it was really fun to walk around the boardwalk and the shops all by ourselves. Especially after spending a day in Disney World waiting in lines and surrounded by swarms of hot, sweaty loud people. I love visiting the super touristy sites, but I would almost always prefer a quiet, less known attraction.
The Disney Boardwalk is basically a little lake (pond?), with a boardwalk that goes all the way around it. The boardwalk is lined with beautiful shops, resorts and even a theater. We walked through a show home condo, you could buy a time share there if you wanted. We also got some super tasty ice cream in a pretzel cone. Yum! There was a boat that we saw leaving a dock off the boardwalk and bringing people somewhere. Later we found out it was a ferry boat to EPCOT! Next time we visit I think we will catch the boat ride, what a cool way to arrive at Disney World…
My absolute favorite spot on the boardwalk was a little beach we found with bench swings! The kids looked so sweet cuddling and swinging there. Not surprisingly, Zoey’s favorite parts of the boardwalk were the tiny ants she kept finding and collecting/killing (by accident). I am pretty sure Kris’ favorite thing was any shop with AC… haha.
We will definitely go back one day (soon hopefully). We still have to buy Zoey a giant lollipop she saw in one of the stores. A lollipop is a good thing to plan a vacation around, right? I will use any excuse to travel.
