Biking Was Not Meant To Be

For those of you who missed it, we got bikes for the family, I shared pictures from our first family ride here. This was our official first time riding together, but not the first time we brought the bikes out. Our first time out with the bikes was not meant to be I guess.

Our plan was to buy all the stuff and head straight to the lake. We got the bike hitch and bikes and went out to the car and it turned out it wouldn’t attach to our trailer hitch. So we had to go buy another attachment. That added an extra half hour onto the journey. The next problem we faced was getting my bike on the trailer, I wanted one of those cute beach bikes and the frame is shaped a little differently than a traditional. That was an easy fix though, we just had to flip it upside down.

Once we got to the lake we thought we were all set, until we pulled out the bike trailer for Zoey and Zander and it came with flat tires. We had left our pump at home! We drove around till we found someone with a bike pump and borrowed it. Next we just had to attach the trailer to the bike – but no matter how hard we tried, the bolt that we had to detach in order to hook it onto the bike would not budge. We needed some tools from home. It must have taken us a couple hours trying to get everything ready, and in the end we couldn’t go!

Instead we hooked on the stroller attachment to the bike trailer and I pushed them while Kris biked a little. It was a really beautiful afternoon to wander the park, and despite the change of plans we had a lot of fun. My favorite part was when we happened upon a little family of Canadian Geese ducklings. They were all huddling together and were SO cute. Someone passing by told us to be careful because the mother geese can be aggressive around there babies. Sure enough, one of them started hissing at us and lunging her beak forward. Then she gathered up all her little ducklings and headed out into the water.

It was a really simple afternoon, nothing special or out of the ordinary. But it is memories and days like this that are my favorite to look back on. I feel so lucky to have my own little crew to love and make memories with!
