We’ve been in New York a few weeks now and we are loving our stay. We have been at The Hampton Inn & Suites here and honestly, if I could, I’d move right in to this hotel! Since we came here specifically to see if we thought Yonkers would be a good spot for our family to move next, I’m going to give you an update with our thoughts on living in Yonkers, New York.
Pros’s of Living in Yonkers, New York
There are SO many things to love. So I will start with a pros list:
We are only half hour from Times Square!
It is the strangest thing to me that we can just get in the car and make a day trip to one of my favorite cities. There is something about NYC that draws me in. It would be amazing to live so close.
The shopping here is amazing.
Maybe I should put this on my cons list because it is bad for my bank account… But within 20 minutes from our hotel we have found three beautiful, high end, shopping malls. I love to shop so this is a huge plus for me!
The scenery is breathtaking.
Just five minutes from our hotel is the gorgeous Untermeyer Conversational Gardens. They overlook stunning views of the Hudson River. These pictures are actually at the Untermeyer Gardens – but unfortunately we came after hours so the gate was locked and we didn’t get to go into the part of the park with the view. There was still plenty of room for the kids to play though as the sun went down. They got to try out their new winter play clothes I got from Peekaboo Beans and that aspect of the excursion was definitely a success.
There is lots to do.
We have NYC, the river and the gardens I mentioned of course. There is also the Bronx Zoo close by and LEGO land. I spotted an iFly center last time we went out shopping too!
Con’s of Living in Yonkers, New York
My con’s list is a little shorter. But there are a few things worth mentioning:
The traffic is bad.
It always takes us more time then it should to get anywhere. That could have to do with it being the holidays… In any case, it takes us at least ten extra minutes in traffic every time we go shopping!
Housing is expensive.
We were hoping to buy a house in residency, but I doubt we would be able to afford one here! We’d have to rent for a few more years, which isn’t what I wanted. It might be worth it for the chance to live here though. I’m super tempted by these luxury apartments Kris discovered the other day…. Not sure we could justify the $5000 a month price tag though!
Overall our visit has been a great experience! Ultimately we don’t get to decide where we end up next. So thinking and planning everything out like this really is just giving me something to do while we play the waiting game till March!
But back to what I mentioned at the beginning of this post – don’t my babies look absolutely ADORABLE in their new winter Peekaboo Beans outfits?? I have been obsessed with Peekaboo Beans since I discovered them a few months ago. A bunch of my mom friends came and tested them out (in this post) and every single one of them commented on the high quality feel of the material, and how soft and comfy these clothes are. I wish they made Peekaboo Beans in my size! They honestly feel better built and more durable than most of my clothes…

The Peekaboo Beans mission has totally inspired me to take more control of my decisions as a parent and teach my children what it means to be creative and have fun without the use of technology. I have implemented a technology free day in our home once a week, and it is amazing what that day has taught me. No question that technology is an amazing tool and a gift – but overuse of it can mean the sacrifice of better things.

But think about if you added some great visuals or videos

Wow Yonkers expensive, didn’t use to be, NY sucks in this way. I grew up on Long Island which is also untouchable especially with taxes. There is a lot of state paid for corruption here. I lived in Seattle for a decade and came back but the cost of living here is out of site and the jobs don’t pay THAT much more. I have step family in Paris I may move there it is surprisingly cheaper then New York. And I would not have to deal with all the awful things happening in this country right now.
