20 decor ideas for decorating christmas in a hotel room

Decorating for the Holidays in a Hotel

For those of you who have been following my Instagram stories, you may have noticed that we’ve been living in a hotel for a month! We may be living in a hotel room for the month, but that doesn’t stop us from getting in the Christmas spirit! This is our favorite holiday of the year and we start decorating for the Christmas right after Halloween. With all the traveling we have been doing this season it was difficult to find time for Christmas decorating. We had to get a little creative. Today I’m going to give you a little tour of our hotel room and tell you how to transform your temporary home into a holiday haven, even if you are traveling for Christmas. So here are my top twenty holiday essentials to bring the Christmas spirit into your temporary home or hotel room if you are going to travel for Christmas.

20 Christmas Decorating Essentials for Holiday Travel

1. Mistletoe!

Small and portable, and it doesn’t only make things Christmassy, it also adds a romantic touch to your hotel room. Mistletoe is absolutely essential! You can get real mistletoe on Amazon for pretty inexpensive (prime delivery so it can still come in time for Christmas). Or you can grab some artificial mistletoe and keep using it for years to come. I am also a big fan of this mistletoe on a headband! It definitely isn’t home decor, but it is funny and festive and I couldn’t resist mentioning it here. It would make a hilarious gag Christmas gift for someone this year.

2. Strings Lights

A string of lights is an expensive and beautiful way to bring the holiday spirit into your hotel room over the holidays. I am still trying to figure out where to hang my lights in the hotel room, but since they are so compact I had to bring some, they are easy to fit in a suitcase if you are going to travel for Christmas. I am loving the selection they have of holiday string lights on Amazon. Here are some of my favorites:

You can pick up a fresh one at local grocery stores and markets during the holiday season. You can also find artificial Christmas wreaths online. Here are a few I really like that aren’t too expensive:

  1. I have been looking for a list like this! We will be traveling this Christmas 🙂 So many creative ideas that hadn’t crossed my mind. Absolutely adorable! Thank you so much!

  2. I love how you decorate! It’s all so homey and perfect. 🙂 I was wondering, though, aren’t you American now? So do you not celebrate thanksgiving in November? Thanksgiving is a traditionally American holiday, but did you use to celebrate it in October when you lived in Canada just as a day to count blessings, be thankful, etc?

    1. Yes! I am Canadian and American. Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, and it is celebrated for similar reasons to the USA 🙂 Usually we just celebrate American Thanksgiving, but sometimes we do both! Depends on how much energy I have lol.
