Gurney’s Montauk

We have loved so many of our experiences here in New York, but my favorite so far was the one we had this weekend. We decided while we were in the area we should make our way up to the Hamptons for a vay-vacation. In case you don’t know, a vay-vacation is a vacation from your vacation. We heard about this on my favorite funny TV show right now, American Housewife, and had to have one. So we left our hotel in Yonkers and went to a resort in the Hamptons to do just that. We stayed at Gurney’s Montauk and oh. my. gosh. I fell in love. I want to move in. And I noticed that they actually do have condo’s for sale in a different part of the resort, so maybe in a few years….

We were in a one bedroom suite that felt like a little beach house. My grandma is an interior designer and her signature style is chic cottage beach house. So I felt at home the moment I walked in. It reminded me of home. The whole thing was beautiful, decorated exactly how my future dream home will be decorated. But the best part were the huge glass windows overlooking the gorgeous ocean views just below us.

The resort is right on the beach so we went down quite a few times. Since it is winter it is a little quieter in the Hamptons, so we had the beach to ourselves every time. The beach is one of those breathtaking beaches that should never be empty, in my opinion. I mean, I loved having the whole thing to myself, but it almost feels like a sin that it wasn’t being enjoyed by more people. I think we will plan more vacations to Montauk this time of year in the future. The winter weather just adds to the beauty, and it really was a quiet and relaxing escape from reality.

Gurney’s Montauk is the only four season resort in Montauk, so it is the perfect place for your winter vacation in the Hamptons. One of the most relaxing parts of our visit was taking advantage of the Seawater Spa. The pool at Gurney’s Montauk is the only ocean fed saltwater pool in the US. It was a very therapeutic experience to visit, especially the jacuzzi! We have missed our hot tub while we have been in Yonkers, so it was nice to soak in a spa again. Although I am afraid it has spoiled me for home… Their hot tub was WAY nicer than ours, haha.

We had breakfast at Tillie’s every morning, which was right on the resort property. The servers were very friendly, and the food was much higher quality than I am used to at any of the restaurants Kris and I visit often. I ordered the Tillie’s Signature Breakfast (I think that is what it was called). It was eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. The toast came with three little jars of jam that were so adorable that Zoey adopted them all and brought them home with her. She has an obsession with tiny cute things. Kris got the steak and eggs and says he would be ok with that for breakfast every morning.

Our favorite food experience at Gurney’s though was having dinner at Scarpetta’s. Maybe I am just not eating at the right places, but I have never tasted food as good as Scarpetta’s! I am already dreaming of the next time I am able to go, and that probably won’t be for a long time… I ordered the Stracciatella to start. It was so fragrant – I enjoyed smelling it as much as eating it. Then I got the Beet Mezzaluna, a earthy beet ravioli with rich and creamy butter and pistachio sauce. The chef sent us out some Creamy Polenta with truffled mushrooms as a special treat and I was blown away! If you go make sure to try that…heavenly.

There was also a darling cafe near the lounge area and Christmas tree called Corso Coffee. We got gelato and baked goodies there! Every place to eat at Gurney’s looked like it was straight out of a magazine! It was all so beautiful. Gurney’s Montauk is definitely a new family favorite spot for a winter getaway. After almost a month in the busy city it was amazing to escape to somewhere quieter. I took an entire day off work on Monday while we were there, something I rarely do, and it was really nice.

Where do you vacation when you have time off in the winter? Have you been to Montauk or the Hamptons??
