Essential Beauty Products for Travel by Rachael Burgess

Traveling Beauty

Since we travel a lot I kind of have a packing system. My goal is always to bring the bare minimum. Usually I would rather buy something I forget, than bring something I don’t need. Since having kids my packing habits have changed a lot too. For example, I used to bring a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, mousse, hairspray, etc. for just a one night stay in a hotel. Now there is only two small things I bring for my hair, and I feel better off than before. My hair is healthier – and with all the weight loss, so is my suitcase. So today I thought I would share with you guys the essential beauty products I pack with me when we travel and why. Hopefully this list will help you pack lighter and more productively too!

1. Hair Straightener.

Recently I started using a vibrating hair straightener. If you have never heard of these before, basically the plates gently vibrate so there is less friction when you run it down your hair. Consequently it does less damage than a regular straightener and leaves your hair smooth and silky for days. The one I got from Vanity Planet also has tourmaline coated plates, which help lock moisture into your hair (rather than burn it out like most straighteners!). I do all my styling with this and don’t need styling products like mousse or hairspray. I leave my hairdryer at home since hotels always provide one. Yes, my personal hairdryer is way better than a hotel one, but when you are only gone a few days, it is better to save the space!

2. Simplified Make Up Bag

Rather than packing up my whole vanity, I grab only the basics. Mascara, eyeliner, foundation and a simple contour palette. Eyeshadow is left behind because I really don’t need it, same with my brow liner and large contour palette. My goal is to choose two lip stick colors max…. But that doesn’t always happen.

3. My Brush Set!

I used to leave my brush set at home because my brushes were way too bulky to fit in my makeup bag. But if you have ever tried contouring without the proper tools you will know what a mistake this is! So I recently invested in the Palette Brush Set from Vanity Planet and now I bring it with me on every trip. All the brushes in this set fit conveniently into a small case, so it fits perfectly in your suitcase without taking up much room at all. It has a flap that protects the brushes and eliminates mess. This brush set is heavenly soft – but made completely cruelty free with synthetic bristles. They are the perfect brushes for contouring.

These three things are really all I bring in the beauty department when I take a short vacation. I even leave behind shampoo and conditioner if I am going for a week or less! I use what they have at the hotel. Nicer hotels usually provide brands of shampoo that I love (subtle advertising for the shampoo brand that totally has worked on me). If I hate what they have I just stop at a drug store and pick something up for cheap! It saves so much room in your suitcase and eliminates the chance of a shampoo bottle bursting in transit, which is just the worst.

Packing light is always my goal when we travel, and the beauty section of my bag always seems to get cluttered up if I don’t put some thought and planning in. These three things are really all I need when I travel, and the best part, I can fit them all in my purse! Which leaves more room for bathing suits in my suitcase😜.

What are your beauty must haves when you travel?
