Zoey’s Show

These pictures are from a day we spent at the Erie Zoo with my mom and youngest brother Nate. This day was so memorable for me for a very specific reason, I will not forget this day anytime soon. We were just walking around the zoo enjoying all the animals when we came to a little stage where they do presentations for the kids. We had passed it lots of times before, but today Zoey jumped on the stage – she started doing her animal dances – her horse, jellyfish, penguin, etc. At the end we all clapped and that is when Zoey did the deepest, longest bow ever, with one hand on her belly and one up in the air! I had never seen her bow before, or shown her how to bow. She was so proud when we all clapped and cheered for her bow that she wanted to do another ‘show’. She started dancing again. It was adorable.

It was just one of those moments where you think, being a parent is the best… You watch them go from this small figure on an ultrasound, to a little baby in your arms that is so completely helpless, to a tiny human with so much creativity and individuality. That is the thing that blows my mind the most, just how unique each personality is. You see bits and pieces of yourself and your parenting in your child, but so much that is just so new. Zoey isn’t really Kris + Rachael – she is just Zoey. It is so awe inspiring to watch children develop and learn, and to realize just how amazing and complex we all are.

Zoey was obsessed with the penguins at the zoo, watched them for probably 15 minutes. She also loved covering her nose with her shirt every time one of the animals was a little stinky… Wonder where she learned that trick!? She could not stop loving on this dog statue, I am pretty sure she loves it more than all the zoo animals combined. She of course took breaks for random dance sessions at least twice during our trip, and we got one of our last family photos together before Zander came out of my belly! It was a good day.
