Nursery Reveal

Ok so – I know I have already shared two different nursery designs… but I think I finally have it. The perfect boy girl nursery design. It is space saving, organized, combines coral, teal, gold and white for a gender neutral feel. And I think it turned out REALLY cute… Not to brag.

Maximize Space

Every time I redesigned the nursery before I had a space issue. No matter how I arranged everything I couldn’t fit Zoey’s bed, Zander’s bed, a dresser, toy boxes, the change table, etc. I was getting frustrated so I finally did some research and got the loft bed I told you about in this post. It totally solved our space problem. I really think this loft bed is the perfect solution for fitting multiple kids in one bedroom. It is a little high, so we moved Zoey to her old bed for awhile, just till we feel like she is totally confident with the ladder. But the loft will be a permanent solution as soon as she reaches that phase and it moved the queen mattress out of the way! Basically I have WAY more floor space!

My whole goal with this nursery design was to maximize the space we had, since their room is very small AND make it a beautiful and magical space for them to play. Zoey has never really played in her room before. In our last house I tried to keep the toys in her bedroom and they would always migrate downstairs to the living room. So with this room I wanted to make the space feel really fun and inviting so she would want to play in her room.

I feel like the loft bed was the key because it really created a fun space underneath. Zoey calls it ‘her castle’ it really feels like a fort! I strung up paper star lights to brighten it up and put a cozy rug underneath, as well as her toy box and a big bean bag chair that I can sit on. Beside the bean bag chair I put her book caddy. At least once a day we all curl up in the bean bag and read books together. It is something I really look forward to. It is small details like this that make the design really work.

Organization

The toy box I have underneath is actually divided into two compartments which is great for organization! I got it like it specifically because I hate it when all the toys are thrown into one big bucket with no rhyme or reason… I am a little bit obsessed with organization, I will admit. In one compartment she keeps her American Girl doll collection and all their accessories. I just added a bunch of dolls to her collection since she is really starting to love pretend play with them. I got her the doll of the year, Gabriella, and two of the BeForever dolls – Kaya and Samantha (only $25!!!).

On the other side of the toy box she keeps her toys that go with her doll house and all the pieces to her Roominate set, since she uses that with her doll house. I saw Roominate on Shark Tank and just fell in love with the idea behind it, which is creating a toy that inspires young girls to build and create. Most ‘girl toys’ are geared towards playing house and dressing up. Roominate is specifically designed to inspire young girls to build and invent! I LOVE that.

Once Zander gets a little older I think I will move more of her toys into the shelf in the closet and make one side of the toy box girl and one side boy, or maybe put toys that they both like to play with in both sides. This toy box works very well with my gender neutral design theme!

Colors & Details

I wanted to keep the girl/boy theme in their room. So I used mainly white with pops of coral, blue and gold throughout. I felt like this color combo was very gender neutral. Zoey’s blanket (in the loft bed) is just plain white. I added blue accent pillows and a coral throw blanket. And I just outfitted Zander’s future bed – where Zoey is sleeping now – with this darling set from Babyletto. It caught my eye with the modern print and I love that you can get the matching wall decals. I don’t want to put a ton of stuff up on the wall since we are renting. But the wall decals are easy to take off without leaving a mark. Oh and the set had a matching cover for the change table so of course I grabbed that too!!

The finishing touch for the nursery design was the video baby monitor. I have two cameras so I set one up to watch Zoey and one for Zander. I originally thought it would be just for while they were sleeping. But it actually has been nice when I have friends over. The kids run upstairs and play. Us moms can stay downstairs and talk while still keeping an eye on them! I have used the baby monitor a lot for play dates lately. Stay at home moms know how hard it is to have a conversation with toddler interruptions. So the baby monitor has been great for that.

So that pretty much sums up my boy/girl, gender neutral, space saving, AWSOME nursery design. I think I can safely say this will be the LAST nursery re-design for awhile since I don’t have any plans to try and move the giant loft bed anytime soon – although I do have a rearranging the furniture addiction… So we will see.

So I am curious – does this design feel gender neutral enough to you guys? My husband thinks it is a little girly… Would you put your boy in this room?
