Pregnancy has so many side effects… And some of those side effects linger. For me the thing that seems to never end was my breaking, dying hair. It has been a process of years, but recently it has started to feel a lot healthier. I think healthy hair care, shampoo, conditioner, etc. plays into that, but the thing that has really made a difference lately is a brand new brush I picked up from the beauty section in Walmart.
The Goody Clean Radiance Brush, designed with firm, copper coated bristles, is what I have been using lately. The stiff bristles help pull out dead and broken hair much better than a regular brush, what is left is much shinier and healthier hair. I bought it because I read that the copper helped promote more radiant and healthy hair. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’ve been using it for about a month now and I really have noticed a difference. It seems like the final thing my battered, post-baby hair needed was some cleaning up. Get rid of the bad and make way for new, healthy and happy hair.
When you have healthy hair you have way more possibilities for styling. A few weeks ago I shared a picture of my chunky side braid on my Instagram and a lot of you wanted me to do a tutorial. Today in celebration of my healthier hair and the Goody Clean Radiance brush here are a few simple steps to get this look for yourself. HINT: I used extensions to make my braid even thicker, but if you don’t use extensions just skip that step!Chunky Side Braid Tutorial
Ok so that was a lot of pictures, but it really is only a few steps.
- Brush your hair out, you want to work with really clean, smooth hair because you are going to be adjusting the braid AFTER its braided – really difficult with messy hair.
- Make a horizontal part, parallel to your natural part, just a couple of inches above your ear.
- Pin the hair in place and grab a chunk from underneath the new part, where ever you want the braid to be.
- Take a strand of extensions with three clips and pin the middle one to the chunk of hair, wrap the other two clips around the back of the chunk of hair and clip them in firmly.
- Remove the bobby pins and let your hair fall back to its natural part.
- Grab the chunk of hair with the extensions underneath and a little bit extra around so the extensions are hidden, if the clips show a little bit at the top while you braid it is ok, you can fix that afterwards.
- Braid down halfway and then starting at the top of the braid gently loosen each notch of the braid, pull it to make the braid wider and more ‘chunky’.
- Finish the braid and do the same thing to the bottom half, once you are happy put in an elastic, hairspray and you’re done!

Love tips! I am going to try this!
So fun. Thanks for the tips!
This is such a gorgeous braid! I have thin, fine hair so I love the tip of using hair extensions to make the braid thicker. Now I just need to find extensions that match my color!
