DIY Office Space

DSC_3415

After more than two years of working from home I finally decided I needed an office. Till this point I have floated around from the couch, to the kitchen table, to the bed, to the floor. I have back pain and shoulder pain from all the different positions I type in. It was long overdue and now that it is done I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. Here are my three simple steps to setting up your own office. You don’t even need an actual office room – all you need is a wall, a desk, chair, lamp and the space is not complete without some artwork (I love InstaFrameArts because they beautifully frame your favorite pictures from Instagram), with just those few things you are set to go!

Step 1

Choose a wall, since I am a stay at home mom I chose an empty wall in my family/living room where I can easily watch my daughter while I work. Once you have identified the perfect spot for your office place your desk and chair there.

Step 2

For the next, and most important step, hang artwork above the desk. This is the step that makes it really feel like your own permanent space. You can’t just pick up the desk and move it anywhere now – this is where it goes. For me the artwork helps create a peaceful atmosphere to work in, it is something to relieve stress while I work. I got the beautifully framed collage on the left from Instaframed. They framed some of my favorite photos from Instagram. You can’t totally tell in the picture, but the frame is bold and sturdy, it gives texture to your wall, which is a great contrast to some more simple frames like the one on the right. I was super impressed by the quality of the prints and frame, they are definitely built to last. On top of that it was much bigger than I expected when I ordered it which is awesome! It was almost as tall as my two year old. On to the next step.

Step 3

Make it your own! I added a lamp, another picture and a candle… I love candles, they are therapeutic. Don’t make it too busy because it is stressful to work in a cluttered environment (for me at least). Just add a few things that will make your work space a comfortable and peaceful place. Make it somewhere that you enjoy being.

It is super easy to create an office space and I can easily say that I get a lot more work done now that I have somewhere comfortable to work. Any other work from home ladies (or gentlemen) reading this? I would love to hear your must haves for your work space!
