Plaid Fall Style and Toddler Tantrums | Rachael Burgess

I’m Not Stylish But…

I will admit, I am not the most fashionable person on the planet. Most brand names are unknown to me, I have a hard time keeping up with what is trendy and I just tend to love the things I love, and hate the things I hate. I feel like I am usually three months late to all the cool trends. For example, I just bought my first velvet top last week. Is that even a fall style? Haven’t people been wearing velvet since spring or something??? I can’t remember when I started seeing velvet all over Instagram, but it definitely wasn’t a week ago.

One fashion thing I do know, you can never have too many plaid shirts during the fall. Right?! I feel like plaid is such a classic fall style, but 99% of plaid tops look the same. Button up, collar, whatever. I seriously am obsessed with this cozy little fall piece I found because it is so different! No buttons, bell sleeves and allllllll plaid. I feel like it is an elevated version of the plaid fall style. A teeny bit less casual than plaid tends to feel. I love it! Maybe I just don’t know how to shop, but I have such a hard time finding unique tops that I just love forever. This is one of those for me. Kris makes fun of the bell sleeves, I don’t even care. I ❤️ them all day.

Anyway…. This particular day we actually spent most our time playing at the playground. This video of us at the playground was taken the same day. After a bit of playground time I wanted to walk around and get some pictures. Zoey was devastated to leave the playground and completely refused. Like literally. She went running full speed towards a slide (screaming) when I told her it was time to go. Toddler tantrums are so fun, aren’t they?

Mom’s are smarter than you’d think though. With toddler tantrums all you need is a little distraction. I can’t tell you how many tantrums I have derailed by saying, “OH MY GOSH ZOEY, look over there!!!!”. I usually point out a sign that is her favorite color or a leaf or a tree. It really doesn’t matter, by the time she finds what I am pointing at she’s forgotten about freaking out. So this day at the playground I told her there were treasures to find on our walk. She immediately was game to go and say goodbye to the playground. Don’t worry, I wasn’t lying about the treasures either. Any rock, leaf or small stick is an amazing treasure in Zoey’s eyes and she collects them all.

We had a lot of fun searching for ‘treasures’. The playground was totally forgotten. I love this age! Also I love fall.

Do you have a favorite fall style? Or a technique for avoiding toddler tantrums?? Let me know in the comments, I obviously need advice on both!
