You know that feeling when you escape from all the stresses of life? The moments where you forget your responsibilities and just embrace the beauty around you? Like when your kid starts laughing hysterically for no apparent reason and you can’t help but join in? Or when you escape to your favorite beach and throw rocks into the water? Or when you finally get a date night alone with your spouse and suddenly you feel like flirtatious and fun teenagers again??

I try to find those moments at least once every day. I call it finding my vacation, at home. Zoey’s biggest stresses in life our making sure she has the right color cup and figuring out when we will go to the playground next. Kris and I laugh about how worked up she gets over little things. But in reality there is such a beauty to how simple a child’s life is. There aren’t bills to pay, schedules to stick to, messes to clean, etc. etc. Once you are an adult, you aren’t really allowed to cry about cup colors anymore, even if you feel like it. Taking time to find my vacation at home and almost become a kid again is vital to my sanity.

I find my vacation in a few different ways, for all the busy momma’s out there I thought I would share them with you guys. I would love to hear how you guys “find your vacation” at home too!

10 Ways To Have A Vacation At Home

1. Device free family time.

I feel like we really connect as a family when we put our phones away and turn off the TV

2. Do something super relaxing and totally unnecessary.

Take a long hot bath, just because you can. Or cuddle up in a cozy blanket and drink tea while you watch your favorite show. Your work will wait for you, you deserve 1/2 hour or so to yourself!

3. Treat yourself to something beautiful.

Kris and I recently each got a pair of Born shoes from Dillards. The comfort is impossible to beat. They are perfect for busy and active parents. Not to mention you can wear them anywhere from the beach to business. I got the Tamara’s and am obsessed with every hand sewn detail, from the real leather body, to the floral design on the memory foam sole. Kris wears his Allans every day to the hospital. Unlike most mens dress shoes, the leather is soft rather than stiff, so they are really comfortable.

4. Get outside!

This is kind of our Sunday tradition. We go walk along the beach, or along the bayfront on Lake Erie. There is something therapeutic about nature. Don’t forget to slip on your beautiful Born shoes 😉

5. Read stories with your kids.

I used to hate reading stories to Zoey because we read the same ones over and over and over. Now we go to the library all the time and get new ones. We always get ten books and when we get home I usually will read 5 of them in  one sitting and then five more a few days later. It is so relaxing and a fun way to connect with Zoey, and disconnect from stress.

6. Put on some headphones, block out the world and listen to your favorite song on repeat.

I do this with the volume at max level regularly. Somehow the loud music blocks out my thoughts temporarily.

7. Call your grandma or aunt, or some relative you don’t talk to often because they live far away.

Have a good conversation reminiscing about old times!

8. Bake something.

Put your phone away and make a batch of your favorite cookies. Then later while you work, you can enjoy a delicious treat!

9. Let loose and unwind.

Sometimes we hold ourselves to imaginary rules, but there aren’t any at home. PJ’s all day?! Why not! Sleep in till 10am while the kids watch cartoons? It won’t kill anybody. Just relax and let go.

10. Spend time on your hobby.

For me it is singing. When I find time to sing or write music, my life is better.

This summer is going to be crazy busy for Kris, so rather than heading out like we normally do in summer time, we are staying home. I think that is part of the reason I have been thinking so much about finding my vacation at home. That is literally what we will be doing all summer! Honestly, I am kind of excited. Why not stay and fully enjoy Pennsylvania during it’s most beautiful time of the year?!

What do you do to find your vacation daily? Anything on my list resonate with you??
