5 Reasons To LOVE Winter

I grew up on sunny Salt Spring Island where we rarely got any snow. My mom always told us stories of what a nightmare snow was and how much she hated living in Alberta during the winter. Since I didn’t grow up with snow I just assumed I would be like my mom and hate it too. Fast forward to my first real winter in Rexburg, Idaho. It was shortly after Kris and I got married, it turned out that I actually LOVED winter. I thought maybe it was just because it felt like such a novelty, but here I am years later and the novelty hasn’t worn off. I really am a snow lover. I don’t love it more than summer, summer is hard to beat… But I really am a fan when the world turns white.

Since moving to Erie I have had probably a million people tell me I am going to HATE the winters here. It was really starting to annoy me! So I decided to share with you all the top five reasons I love this season. Hopefully I can convince a few people to jump off the band wagon and join me over here where the grass is greener (or the snow is whiter??). Come love this beautiful season with me!

Five Reasons To Love Winter

1. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL

I absolutely love that moment when you look out your window first thing in the morning and the world has turned white! It is so breathtaking. I get the same excited feeling on a sunny, blue sky day. The world is just so beautiful and experiencing that beauty in all its different forms makes me feel SO happy and lucky to be alive.

2. Winter Style

Yes it is bitterly cold, but you can dress up really warm! I absolutely love winter fashion. Scarves, coats, cozy socks, layers and layers and layers – they all make me happy. And I am sure you have all noticed by now, but I am a sucker for a good pair of boots.

Boots are like the bathing suits of winter – you can never have to many swimsuits in the summer. You can never have too many boots in the winter. I have showed off some of my favorite fall boots on my blog recently, but the pair I am wearing in this post is specifically for winter. Kamik boots are built to step outside into the snow! 3. Sledding anyone?!?

Playing in the snow isn’t just for kids. I love to put on a warm pair of boots and run around in the winter wonderland! I love to sled and make snow balls and I especially love throwing snowballs at Kris. Last year Kris and I and some friends went to the top of a big hill to go sledding. We took Zoey’s tunnel and used it to roll down the hill (blog post about that here). We looked absolutely ridiculous – but we had SO much fun!! It is such a good memory. The snow makes good memories!!

4. It is also a good excuse to stay inside cozy by a fire…

You can put on some warm winter boots and go outside, or you can put on some footie pajamas and spend the day by the fire… Both are such good options. I absolutely love a cozy day inside when it is freezing cold outside. Give me all the soft blanket and hot cocoa in the world please!

5. It is so festive!

Christmas carols, snowmen, lights, the smell of pine and cinnamon, stockings hanging over the fire… There isn’t any other season quite so festive as Christmas time. Since we are Canadian and have our Thanksgiving in October we put up the tree any time after Halloween. We like to get the most we can out of the holidays.

I just love traditions. I think it is because they bring back memories. This will be our first Christmas with just our little family, I am trying to come up with some new traditions that we can pass on to our kids to make this time of year more special. I want to do something unique and memorable that our kids can look back on and laugh… Still working on that, if you have any ideas for me let me know.
