Zoey is four and even though daddy is definitely her favorite, she still likes to dress and act just like her mama. She wants to wear matching outfits, put on my makeup, and she even talks like me. Every time I put on lipstick she insists on wearing the same color! I love that she wants to be like me, but it puts the pressure on. I shared a video on Instagram lately about how I wanted to teach Zoey that you don’t need to wear makeup to be beautiful by going makeup free as often as I can. I am still trying to do that, but it isn’t easy when you don’t sleep much and your skin is aging.

Today I am taking the no makeup challenge again! This makeup free look is actually hard for me to share. I am not super confident with how I look without makeup, but I should be! I never want Zoey to feel like she has to wear makeup, so makeup free I go, but I don’t do this without some preparation. Here are a few things I do to help support healthy skin, hair and nails so I can feel radiant with our without makeup.

Ways to Help Support Healthy Skin, Hair & Nails so you can go Makeup Free

1. Take a supplement that supports healthy skin.

I take Nature Made® Hair Skin & Nails Adult Gummies daily. Nature Made® made the 1st Gummies to receive USP verification. The U.S. Pharmacopeia Convention (USP) is a third party nonprofit organization that verifies products for purity, potency, and quality. USP tests all Nature Made® gummies for purity and potency, so I get the added assurance that they have the nutrients I want. That is why I choose them to help support my skin.

2. Drink lots of water!

There is nothing better you can do for your skin than drink lots of water. In college I was expected by my vocal coach to have a water bottle with me everywhere I went. She would always keep tabs on that when she saw me around campus and in class. I quickly developed the habit of bringing water with me everywhere. For me that is the best way to stay hydrated to this day. Even though I am at home most days, I still have to carry around a water bottle with me around the house if I want to remember to drink enough.

3. Stick to a regular facial care routine.

Make sure you wash your face every night before bed with hot water and your facial cleanser. Moisturize your face in the morning before applying your makeup. I always apply facial cream about 10 minutes before I put on makeup. It gives it some time to soak in and also acts as a barrier between your skin and your makeup. I also use a charcoal face mask about once a week to exfoliate my skin, clean my pores and eliminate dead and dry skin.

4. Eat foods that help support healthy skin and healthy hair growth.

Eating foods that are high in antioxidants can help reduce the signs of aging skin. Blueberries are a good example of a food high in antioxidants. Eating raw fruits and veggies usually gives you more antioxidants than eating them cooked as well. Other great foods to help support healthy skin are nuts, high fat fish like salmon and mackerel, beans, etc.

5. Wash your hair less often.

I discovered recently that my hair is significantly healthier when I wash it 2-3 days a week rather than my typical 5-7 times a week. My hair gets oily fast, so I don’t leave it alone completely. I wash it thoroughly 2-3 times a week, and the rest of the time I just apply a small amount of shampoo to the roots of my hair, leaving my ends alone. Then I condition the ends of my hair, and leave the roots alone. Your hair is much different from the roots all the way to the ends if you have long hair, so it makes sense to treat different parts of your hair differently. Since I have started this routine my hairs health has increased noticeably. You can physically see the difference!

6. Take a supplement to help support healthy hair and nails.

The Nature Made® Hair Skin & Nails Adult Gummies are my supplement of choice to help support healthy hair and nails. These Gummies are the only Beauty Gummies that are USP verified, so you know that what’s on the label, is what’s in the gummies. Nature Made® Hair Skin & Nails Adult Gummies provide 2500 mcg biotin and 100 mg vitamin C per serving. They also may help support healthy hair, skin and nails in those deficient in biotin.† I love that this supplement works to support the health of three areas of my body at once! When you have healthy hair, skin and nails it is easy to feel confident going makeup free. These gummies are an essential part of my daily routine.

7. Go makeup free.

Going makeup free as often as possible is amazing for your skin! I love makeup and wear it all the time, but I can clearly see the negative ways it affects my skin. Washing off heavy eye makeup leaves my eyelids and under eyes red and irritated. And my foundation tends to clog my pores. Taking a break from makeup gives your skin a chance to breath.

It is so important to me that I teach Zoey confidence and self love – and going makeup free is a huge part of that. There are so many other aspects of my parent that are aimed to inspire confidence, but this is is one small thing I do that plays a big part in that goal. Not to mention it makes my life a whole lot easier, I save time every morning that I don’t put on makeup and that is nothing to complain about.

How do you teach your daughters confidence? Are you ready to take the no makeup challenge with me?

  1. Good tips! I love that you are thinking of how to foster self-worth in your daughter…it’s something that has been on my mind for my own, especially in a society that places our value on just looks. Thanks for sharing!
