Happy Fathers Day Week!

I actually meant to post this Fathers Day, but I am a little scatterbrained. So lets just call this Fathers WEEK! Fathers are pretty fab and I think they deserve more than just a day anyways, don’t you??
This fathers day was actually pretty special because it was Kris’ first one as a real live dad to a real live, kicking, summersaulting little girl. Now some of you are probably thinking it doesn’t count yet, cuz she is technically still inside my stomach. Let me just give you a little background though and I am pretty sure you might be sending Kris flowers and a card in the mail that says ‘Thanks for being the best dad in the world, I wish you were my dad too!’

Being pregnant has not been the easiest road for me. From day one I was exhausted, I literally hit the pillow and would fall asleep instantly. That was the first six weeks. It was hard being so tired but those days seem like a dream compared to my first day of PADS (pregnancy all day sickness) which eventually turned into regular morning sickness at around week 20. I could barely walk when I wasn’t at work and I was constantly hungry yet the sight and thought of food would make me vomit and throughout the entire thing Kris has been the saintliest saint I have ever met.
After getting home from work Kris would run back and forth from the kitchen making me 5 or 6 different meals. Half of which I wouldn’t be able to eat when it actually came down to it. He has given me endless back-rubs and foot massages. Runs me hot baths when I’m achy. He puts on my socks when I can’t bend over and washes all my laundry. He tells me how beautiful I am daily even though I feel like an elephant and says hi to the baby almost every night. Through all my tears and sickness and emotion he has been 100% supportive. I could not ask for a better hubby and for this reason I know he will be the BEST daddy the world has ever known. He’ll take care of our little girl just like he always takes care of me:)
So go ahead start writing your cards to him. I know you can’t resist. Anyways I recorded this song, I haven’t shown it to him yet but it is one of my favorite songs and describes exactly how I feel about him.
Well I could not write a post about dads without saying something about my own dear father who is equally the best father in the world. So for all the times you let me cry on your shoulder, sang me to sleep at night and bought me ice-cream, for all the times you have made me laugh hysterically, made me chocolate chip cookies and for all the long hard hours you have worked to provide for me, I just wanted to say thank you. I could not have a more sweet, loving and supportive father. And don’t worry. I know I am your favorite daughter.

Oh ALSO, my dad is a fantastic singer. One of the reasons I love the memory of him singing me to sleep for the first 8 or 9 years of my life. Maybe longer. Here is a little sample of a beautiful song he sings called The Rose.

XOXO,

  1. Hi Rachael..I’m your daddy’s cousin, Collette. My mom Jenny and his dad are siblings. I’m sure I’ve met you but you were probably really little at the time. I just wanted to say hi and tell you one of my favorite memories of your dad is that song you posted him singing too. It seems like every time the family would get together, he’d sing that song and I’ve ALWAYS loved it! I enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to following it. congrats on the pregnancy…not the sick part, soooo sorry about all that. It’s not fun, but it’ll be so worth it when you hold that sweet little girl in your arms!

    1. WOW – thanks so much for your kind words, I am so glad I was able to bring back good memories for you:) It is one of my favorite songs to hear him sing too. I remember your mom really well, I’ve visited/stayed at her house a few times! Hopefully we get to meet again one day! All the best!

  2. Rach, this might be my favorite post yet. You have amazing men in your life and you are going to be a great momma because you know how to respect and honor them. I loved hearing you sing an old favorite and your dad singing another.
