Burgess New Years Eve Party 2016

Who else is SUPER excited about 2017?! I know technically New Years day is just another day, there is nothing magical about transitioning from one year to the next. But it always feels monumental. We already know 2016 well, but 2017 is new and exciting and full of promise. The first day of the new year it feels like anything is possible.

In honor of New Years Day I thought I would share with you all my highly effective method for making (and keeping) New Years Resolutions. I shared this 5 step process last year in a post called I Have A Confession, but since there are a lot of new people here now, I thought I would give a super quick refresher. After that I will share a quick, diary style, recap of our New Years Eve party. It was absolutely perfect and I don’t want to forget it!

How To Make And Keep New Years Resolutions:

  1. Choose a goal. What is it you really, really, want to accomplish this year?? Big or small, it doesn’t matter.
  2. Divide your goal into big chunks, write down each step it will take to accomplish your goal. For example if my goal is to make a new YouTube cover the steps would be: 1. Choose a song, 2. Find the music, 3. Learn/memorize it on the piano, 4. Practice for a few days, 5. Record, 6. Edit, 7. Upload.
  3. THIS STEP IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS: Divide each of those chunks into baby steps. Steps so easy you wouldn’t even think twice about being able to find time to do it every day.
  4. Take one baby step EVERY DAY. Don’t push yourself to do more than a baby step if you don’t have time. The important thing is to make habit of making progress every single day. No matter how small that progress is!
  5. Enjoy your success! Give yourself a high five 😉

I have said it before, I will say it again, you will be AMAZED at how much you can accomplish by consistently taking small steps.

So with that little snippet of motivation for the New Year, I will now tell you guys a little about our New Years Eve party (just scroll through the pictures I put captions under a lot of them). This part of the post is mostly for my sake, as a sort of journal entry to look back on. So feel free to skip over to the comments and let me know what your goals for this year are! Or keep reading/scrolling for a little glimpse into our life… HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

This was the best moment of the night for me. Kate and Zoey both took turns performing for everybody. They were singing into this little mic and each time one of them finished a song the other would start up with a new one, like they were trying to one up each other. Zoey’s bow at the end of her performance, that lasts as long as we will clap, always melts my heart. She started bowing whenever we clap for her a few months ago and we have no idea where she got it from. She LOVES being the center of attention and definitely is a little performer at heart.

I am always worried there won’t be enough food when we host stuff. So I made way too much, and then everybody who came brought delicious goodies as well. Better too much than too little though!

Kate kept begging me to take more pictures of her while she danced with Zoey’s fairy wings yelling, “Cheese!!!”

I am amazed at how calm and small our group photo looks. If only you could have heard all the noise and seen the million toys on the floor in front of us while we were taking this picture…

These two were inseparable the entire party and at the end of the night Kate said she would be fine staying and living with us hahaha.

Right before the party Zoey told me, “My friends are going to come to my house and play snow white with me and they will LIKE IT!”

I loved when Hudson reached up high and dipped his finger in a bowl of icing dip, while singing, “Marsh-mall-OHS!” in a cute, quiet voice. It wasn’t marshmallows.

I dressed Zoey in a super cute sweater that I just bought for her, and as soon as her friends got her she grabbed this dress from her dress up box and told me, “I want to wear my princess dress to show my friends how pretty it is!!” The dress is way too big, all the way down to her ankles, but she wore it the whole night.

Party crackers were a New Years Eve tradition for my family growing up. I searched so many stores and FINALLY found some, I thought they would be everywhere for New Years. But I guess they are just a Canadian New Years thing?? Or maybe just my family?!

The picture before this picture included lots of hands on other peoples knees, lots of laughing (and even snorting) and arms around each other. But they insisted I take another, less entertaining, picture.

The majority of the evening they were on their bellies and their toys were talking to each other.

Not in the pictures is a fun game we all played. It was like pictionary, but you draw it on the iPad and it shows up on the TV. We played girls vs. guys and it ended up being a tie. I think the ladies would have won if I hadn’t been allowed to draw though… 😂
