Just Say NO To Mom Hair | 8 Time Saving Hair Hacks

Mom hair. We have all heard the term. The phrase used to describe when women stop caring about their hair. Or when they stop having time to care about their hair because they have other priorities. Kids! And what better priority could us moms have?! Still, to me the phrase seems so degrading.

Shouldn’t ‘mom hair’ portray a more flattering image in peoples’ minds? Mom hair makes us think of someone who is apathetic, lazy or has just given up. But those attributes could not be farther from the truth when you are talking about a mom. Some words that come to mind when I think of my own mother are: strong, hardworking, multi-tasker, creative, problem solver, planner, caregiver, loving, intelligent and beautiful. The list could keep going. I hate that the word “mom” is associated with anything negative.

As a mom of two babies, I can understand how the phrase came about. Personally, I have never cut my hair to the typical “mom hair” short bob style. BUT I have had more “I don’t have time, messy bun it is!” days than I can count. I realized the other day that I haven’t used hairspray or mousse in months (used to be a daily thing for me pre-kids!). Time is something I don’t have a lot of, but I never want to be perceived as a person who doesn’t care. I do care! I also want people to see that being a mom does not take away from a person’s individuality or beauty. Being a mom makes me a stronger person, and strong is beautiful! So I decided to come up with 8 ways we can rock “mom hair” and look as awesome as we are.

1. Don’t Make Time For Your Hair, TAKE Time!

Sometimes you just have to TAKE time for yourself. Every once in a while I just turn on Netflix for my toddler just so I can take some time to pamper myself. Even if it is four in the afternoon, it makes me feel human again to sit down, put on some make up and do something with my hair.

2. Build A Foundation For Life Long Healthy Hair

Lots of days us moms don’t have time, it is part of life. One of the sacrifices we make to have kids is giving up a lot of freedom – and isn’t it just SO worth it when you see those cute little faces??? That is why it is important to choose products that will help establish healthy hair that doesn’t need much maintenance. Nurture your hair so your natural beauty can shine through. I love the Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Suite. I just started using it and it is already starting to repair a lot of damage my hair has suffered from pregnancy hormones and lack of maintenance. It is great at maintaining hydrated, healthy hair. Find something that works for you and consistently use it to keep your hair healthy and glowing.

3. Come Up With Some Easy Go To Hair Styles

I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to hair styles that are simple, time saving and effortlessly gorgeous. It is so nice to have a few of these on hand for busy days! Actually the style I am wearing now comes from this board and it took about two seconds to do.

4. Repair The Winter Hair Damage

My hair doesn’t love the winter. It gets dry, frizzy and lots of dead ends. It is really important to be mindful of how seasonal changes affect your hair. I just started using Moisture Renewal 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner since I heard it was amazing for dry and frizzy hair. I could feel the difference after using it just twice and I already have another bottle in my Amazon shopping cart. It seems to be helping with my split ends too. Use a product like this so on the days you don’t have time to do your hair. The soft gleam it gives you will make your hair look radiant and strong, just like you.

5. Accessorize!

Hats, headbands and even hair extensions are a fun way to give your hair the WOW factor with very little effort.

6. Don’t Give Up, Keep Caring About Your Hair

I have had so many days where I have said to myself, “I give up! I don’t have time for this anymore!”. We’ve all been there as moms, right?! It is totally normal and healthy to have a day or two or three where you really don’t have time to give your hair some loving attention. That is totally ok!!! Attitude does a lot though. Even on the days I don’t have time, I remind myself that I do care, and that I will find time later.

7. Pay It Forward

It is almost Christmas, so why not gift another momma something that will save her time and help her look as strong and beautiful as she is! I bought the Daily Moisture Renewal collection on Amazon to give my sister. She is a momma of two little babes who are even closer in age than mine. She inspires me daily with how much she does, on top of being the best mom her kiddies could ask for. I know she will love this gift and her gorgeously curly hair will say thank you too.

8. Be Confident

When you have a spare second sit down and think about all the things you have accomplished this week. From diaper changes to work meetings and homework help to social events. Be proud of your accomplishments and let that confidence shine through. Confidence is beautiful!

So there you have 8 ways to rock your mom hair and look awesome with very little effort. Whether you actually have the mom hair haircut, or just don’t have time to care for your hair the way you used to, these time saving hair hacks are for you. I think it would be SO awesome if together we could change the definition of ‘mom hair’ and show the world how strong and beautiful us moms really are. Mom hair should be something that represents our strength, it should mean envy-worthy gorgeousness. Right?! Lets make it happen!!

Has anyone else felt annoyed by the definition of mom hair?? If you have any more time saving tips for gorgeous hair, let me know in the comments so I can add them to the list!

  1. That first photo of you and your daughter is so cute! Your hair is beautiful and I agree, it’s important to take time for yourself and your hair and as a mommy of two little ones, I know what that’s like. I also have curly hair so it needs extra loving 🙂 x

  2. You hair is stunning, I really miss my long hair, I had long hair almost to my waist and I cut it into a short bob (yes I’ve gone mom hair haha) but I did it to donate my hair to charity, Still, I do love taking time to style my hair 🙂
