I am starting to get everything really ready for this baby! I only have 2.5 months left, maybe less if he comes early like Zoey did. We are spending three weeks of that time in Hawaii, so I feel like I am getting down to the wire here with getting everything ready. Today I worked on organizing his newborn wardrobe. Zoey loves ‘baby brothers clothes’ and wants to try everything on despite how small they all are. Her favorite part of the process was throwing everything in the laundry basket before I brought it downstairs to wash, I don’t know why but for some reason me throwing laundry at her face is absolutely hilarious for her. I didn’t buy a lot yet, just because I have no idea how big he will be and how fast he will grow. With Zoey I got mostly 6-12 months at my baby shower and didn’t buy much newborn because everyone told me that they grow out of newborn so fast. She defied the predictions and wore newborn clothes well past six months and wasn’t fitting her six month clothes till almost a year! I have heard of other babies who wear 12 months by the time they are six, so I thought it would be better to wait and see. I got the essentials though. For me there are three steps to getting your babies wardrobe ready for when they arrive.

Preparing My Newborn Wardrobe

  1. Buy the essentials. Lots of people wonder what clothes to buy to get ready for a new baby. Like I mentioned I don’t buy a lot because you really don’t know how fast they’ll grow. This is a list of what I got to get started. I bought the socks for his hands, Zoey scratched her face a lot as a newborn and rather than spending money on mitts that we would never use again, I put little socks on her hands and then I could still use them when she started wearing more play clothes and needing socks.
    • 8 onesies
    • 6 pj sets
    • 1 play outfit
    • 1 nice outfit for church
    • 6 pairs of socks
    • 4 swaddles
    • 2 warm blankets
    • lots of nursing clothes
    • optional: a few seasonal items, it will be getting to winter when he is born so I bought baby boy Burgess a little cuddly snow suitGetting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael Burgess
  2. Wash everything! Newborns are so vulnerable and sensitive to the new environment they are in. You can never be too clean, there is no telling how many people picked up those adorable baby clothes before you bought them. You can never be too safe when it comes to your newborn baby. I use all® free clear because it is the #1 laundry detergent recommended by dermatologists, allergists, and pediatricians for sensitive skin. If you are looking for a detergent to wash your newborns clothes with, buy all® free clear, you can get it at Walmart. Join the all® free clear community to see just how many other parents agree with me on this. I also use the all® free clear mighty packs because they are great on stains, which babies make a LOT of…Getting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael BurgessGetting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael BurgessGetting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael Burgess
  3. Organize clothes between the dresser and your hospital go bag. You only need a few things in the hospital go bag when it comes to clothes, I would say 2 pjs, 3-4 onesies, socks, a swaddle, some burp clothes and a warm blanket. Put everything else away in the nursery and you are all set!Getting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael BurgessGetting your newborn wardrobe ready by Rachael Burgess

I seriously can’t wait to meet this baby boy and getting everything ready just makes it feel that much more real. What are your newborn essentials? I am always trying to refine my list and make sure I haven’t missed anything.

  1. My son was tiny, too! And now, at 7, he’s tall and thin! Beautiful photos! Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy! #client

    1. That makes me so happy to hear! Glad it helped a little. I always have to write down lists of everything or I go crazy trying to figure out what I need haha. Can’t wait to see those little babes of yours. xoxox

  2. That’s a really great list! My only thing is that I wasn’t nearly as proactive about changing my second into cute outfits nearly as often as I did for my first. That being said, I ended up using a lot of sleepers instead of the cute two piece outfits.
Really adorable colour scheme too! Two kids are great, especially when the oldest is old enough to be helpful!

    1. I hope I have energy after this baby is born… I am exhausted all the time these days! I am hoping that buying the cute outfits will motivate me to put him in them LOL. xoxox
