Zoey used to get really mad when I would work out. She would jump on me to try and get me to stop. Now she is in this stage where she loves doing anything that I love… So together we have been learning yoga. Learning to exercise with your toddler definitely takes some practice and some trial and error, but once you get in a groove it is really fun. Today I am going to share with you some fun mommy and me yoga tips.

Yoga is something I started doing as a way to relieve joint pain that came after pregnancy. Pregnancy can be really trying on your hips, knees, back and more and yoga is a great way to relieve that pain. Before I was pregnant with my second baby I would use yoga in the morning to relax and stretch my joints, and then in the evening if I was still uncomfortable and unable to sleep I would take an Advil, followed by a hot bath. My joint pain always would be completely gone after that and I would sleep SO comfortably. For me the pain only got bad enough to take an Advil about once every week or two, after that I would be set for awhile. Obviously now that I am pregnant I am not taking Advil, but with new aches and pains appearing regularly, I am really focusing on my mommy and me yoga.

I am no expert at yoga, I just do a little here and there to stretch and relax, but I thought I would just share some of my favorite poses that are simple, rejuvenating to sore joints and can be done by both both mom and babe. So without further ado, here are my mommy and me yoga tips. Just follow along imitating the pictures to do this at home! I wrote a note about each pose for extra help, but they are all very straight forward.

Mommy and Me Yoga Tips for Beginners

SUKHASANA

One of the most basic yoga poses there are. It seems so simple, but it actually took her quite a bit of practice to figure out how to place her hands on her knees🙈😂. This pose is great for relaxing your spine and easing tension in your back.

SEATED ANGLE POSE

Zoey is much more flexible than me in this position! She gets really into it when I ask if she can touch her toes. This one is getting a little difficult for me with this baby in my belly growing like CRAZY. This stretch is fabulous for strengthening your hip joints.

CHILDS POSE (GARBHASANA)

This always has been, probably always will be, my favorite yoga pose. I could probably sleep like this. Since I am pregnant I just move my legs apart so my belly can fit in between them, so comfy. This one is great for stretching your back and strengthening knee and hip joints.

COBRA POSE

This one is easy for Zoey to jump on my back! She can do it herself as well, which is good because I like to deepen the stretch in my lower back by going up on the palms of my hands and then it gets difficult for Z to stay on.

DOWNWARD DOG

This is Zoey’s favorite and my least… I will never understand how people get their body into that perfect V shape. Zoey does this all the time just out of the blue though. She loves it.

TREE POSE

This one is simple, relaxing and easy for everyone.

FLYING POSE

I don’t even know if this one is real yoga. Zoey absolutely loves pretending to fly though, so it is really fun for her. I really feel this stretch in my shoulders.

I secretly can’t wait to be able to take Advil again once this baby is out of me, when my joint pain gets really bad it has helped me SO much. If you struggle with arthritis the Advil EZ open is perfect for you, since the cap of the bottle is easy to open. You can get it at Walmart, or online here. They also have Nexium 24hr with the EZ open lids at Walmart, which is also great for those suffering from arthritis. Always ask a doctor before use if you have a history of stomach problems, such as heartburn. When reading more about Advil I was shocked to learn that more than 53 million Americans suffer from arthritis and wanted to share this awesome resource I found. It is called the Better Living Toolkit and you can get it for free, or by donation to the Arthritis Foundation.

That pretty much sums up our little yoga/joint pain relief routine. I hope you enjoyed these simple mommy and me yoga tips. I am always on the look out for more ways to strengthen and heal my post pregnancy joints, so let me know what has worked for you!
