Medical school keep Kris busy and work + motherhood keeps me busy, so date nights are few and far between. We have plenty of stay in date nights, but I am talking about the kind where you get a babysitter and go out and do something fancy. Last week we heard that one of our favorite comedians was coming to town though and Kris decided it was the perfect excuse to take me out on a ‘real’ date. He bought the tickets and got us some dinner reservations and I worked out a play date for Zoey with her best friend Harrison. Before we dropped Zoey off we decided to take some time to explore our city a little bit and take some pictures. You can see pictures of the date itself here, but I wanted to share these ones along with a few tips on getting ready for a night out.

The first thing I do when getting ready for a night out is choose my outfit. It may sound silly but I try and pick my outfit out the day before so there is no chance I am rushing around at the last second trying to figure out what to wear. Believe me, I have done that many times and there is nothing worse than being all sweaty before your date even starts from a thousand outfit changes. Make sure you choose something that is activity appropriate and that you won’t be uncomfortable in the whole night.

The second thing to do is pick your fragrance. I used to only wear one perfume ever because I would buy a bottle and wait till it ran out before getting a new one, which took forever. I switched to Scentbird though and they send me a new designer perfume each month that is made to last a full month – four sprays a day. If you are like me and usually only wear perfume when you are going out than it will last a lot longer and pretty soon you will have a whole collection of delicious scents. You get to choose which scent you want to receive each month, and they give you recommendations based on your flavor preferences. You never have to make blind guesses about whether you will like it or not.

I put a lot of emphasis on what perfume I choose for an important night out because it is something that helps create a memory. When you smell a familiar fragrance it brings you straight back to the moment you first experienced it. This month from Scent Bird I got Candy by Prada and every time I smell it I go back to some great memories I have of dances when I was a teenager. I have some great memories associated with this perfume and hope to create a lot more (this date night definitely being one of them).

The last thing I try to do is find time a few hours before the date to get my hair and makeup done. When it comes time to leave there is absolutely no stress. I pull on my chosen outfit, spray on a scent and I am ready to run out the door. Basically I plan and prepare so rather than being fashionably late – I can be fashionably on time.

We had so much fun walking around town with Little Z and taking pictures… Kris was there too, I promise. He is just behind the camera the whole time. Later we dropped Zoey off at her besties house so we could enjoy a night alone. It was definitely one of my favorite dates ever, but I will write more about it and share pics later because I am getting tired of writing… (UPDATE: here is the post with pictures from the date.)

One last thing. I wanted to give each of you a free bottle of perfume to help you get ready for the perfect night out (there is cologne for the guys too!). Just click here to get your free bottle. Comment and let me know what flavor you chose!
