As promised in my post from yesterday, here are the pictures from our picnic date night. We have been trying to take advantage of the outdoors as much as possible before it is freezing cold out. The weather is kind of being bipolar lately. The day of our picnic was quite chilly and then today we went to a pumpkin patch wearing sweaters and I was sweating the whole time because it was SO hot!

Picnics should be simple food I think. I packed a sub sandwich, potato salad and drinks. Oh and some apples and chips. All non-messy food. I love having a picnic basket that can double as a table as well when you empty it out and flip it over. I make my picnic a little fancier by bringing some candles along and feel like they really helped set the mood. Especially since they were candles with festive fall scents. The two I brought with us were Marshmallow Milkshake and Fall Festival flavored… There is nothing like a beautiful scented candle to get you reminiscing about the holidays and great memories with family.

The candles had me thinking about something a lot more important than a holiday though. Before I get into the story a little more background. I brought our Diamond Candles on the picnic, besides smelling good they are encased in glass which makes them sit well on an uneven lawn you may have a picnic on. The reason Diamond Candles have their name is because inside each candle is a ring + a unique code which you enter online to see if you were lucky enough to win a $100, $1000 or $5000 ring, you can only get to the ring by burning your candle and melting down the wax.

Back to my story. It just so happened that Kris proposed to me after a candle lit picnic in Laie, HI. So the combination of a picnic + candles and then add a beautiful ring into the mix and you pretty much are recreating one of the best days of my life. It may sound cheesy but I can’t burn a candle without being reminded of that amazing day – which was 4 years ago on September 21st. It is weird because 4 years doesn’t sound like that long ago at all but it feels like a lifetime away. Which is another reason I love candles, they instantly can bring you back in time to a moment long ago.

It is crazy to think how much has happened since Kris proposed. We got married. We have lived in 4 places. We have a baby. Kris is in medical school. I have my blog and music page on Instagram. We are so busy now and it was great to take a moment away from the rush and relax with some yummy food, fresh air and fragrant fall candles.

I would love to hear what great memories you associate with festive fall aromas.

UPDATE: I reached out to Diamond Candles, and they were kind enough to offer a special fall deal to all of you! Just click here to browse, then use the coupon code “BURGESS” to get 20% off (it’s valid through the end of 2015).

XOXOX,
rach
