We pretty much spend EVERY day at the beach. I think I have come to the point in my life where I can safely say that I will never get bored of the beach. But after two weeks straight spending the day building sandcastles and swimming, we were ready to break things up a little bit. We spent the day at the Polynesian Cultural Center, since it was on our list of things to do on the island. It is one place you have to visit while you are in Hawaii. We always make time to stop here when we have a family vacation in Oahu. There is so much to do and experience in the Polynesian Cultural Center. I went to school right next door to it, so I have been dozens of times. I still haven’t experienced all the shows and entertainment available.

Basically the Polynesian Cultural Center is a way to experience all the islands, a traditional way, without leaving Hawaii. They have a village representing Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand and more. Each village is set up in the traditional historical style of that island group. They each have a show that is a combination of culture, tradition and humor to keep you entertained. The islands each have traditional activities that you can participate in as well. Basket weaving, traditional games and bracelet making are just a few of the things you can spend your time doing.

Zoey’s favorite part was the dancing. You will see traditional dancing at every island show. Half way through the day there is a parade type dance on the river. Each boat in the parade is built like a platform or stage. Each represents a different island and as they float buy dancers perform complicated and beautiful traditional dances! At the Luau where we had dinner there was dancing and entertainment the whole time. At the end of the night there is the famous night show. That was definitely the most unforgettable part of our experience, it also includes tons of dancing. Zoey loves to dance and she is mesmerized watching professional dancers, so the Polynesian Cultural Center was perfect for her.

For the night sho you sit in a giant outdoor amphitheater in front of the most beautiful stage and get to watch a world class performance. I won’t give away the story line, but it is beautiful and touching! My favorite part was when Zoey yelled out, “Look! They are doing loga like mommy!!” (she calls yoga loga). They weren’t doing yoga, it was some traditional island dance. I loved that she thought of me when she saw it though!

SO that basically sums up the Polynesian Cultural Center experience for you. It definitely was a highlight of our trip. Now I have to get back to enjoying some island sunshine, we only have a few days left in paradise!!

  1. Awe such a fun adventure. I love the Polynesian Cultural Center! But I have to be honest, mostly I was thinking how beautiful you are pregnant and so radiant! Thanks for posting this. I miss you guys soooo much! Ox

  2. It’s so fun to see your tummy growing, Rach. We loved the Polynesian Center as well, and it brought back such special memories of our years in the South Pacific. One precious memory was of you having a bath in a kiddy swimming pool in our yard in Samoa, surrounded by the most lush and fragrant flowers, avocados, mangoes etc. After being born, I think that was your next big adventure – flying half way across the world to a tiny paradise island to bring joy to our hearts. You’re still doing that, and so is the rest of your sweet family. We love you all.
