2 New Potential Cities for Residency

Before I share the news about which cities we are adding to our list of potential homes, guys, JUST LOOK AT ZANDER in that picture above 😭😍😭😍😭😍😭😍. He must have been tired in the swing, because he just cuddled up like this all on his own… My heart can’t handle how handsome he is. OK, proud mom rant over. Now onto an update on our medical school journey. We have some exciting news!!

The news is….. Kris just got another audition rotation in Yonkers, New York! So we will be living there for a month later this year. We still haven’t figured out where we are going to live for the month, and rent is SO expensive. Any tips would be appreciated. We have been looking around, hoping to find something soon!

Yonkers is an hour outside of NYC, which would be kind of perfect. It would be away from the craziness, but close enough for a weekend visit to Times Square. It is directly on the Hudson River, which is just beautiful. And it is just a few hours away from the Hamptons. We definitely want to do a weekend getaway to the Hamptons while we are living in Yonkers.

I have been eyeing this resort, Gurney’s Montauk. It has a salt water, ocean fed pool. The only one of its kind in the United States. Plus it just looks like pure luxury. Prices are cheaper and the crowds are down during the winter months, so it seems like the perfect time to visit! Sorry I got sidetracked with my vacation planning day dreams… On to the next piece of exciting news.

Kris just got another interview! A hospital in a city I have never even heard of wants to interview Kris for a position as an ER Doctor. WHAT?!!? How can this be real life?? Becoming a doctor is HARD guys, and I am so insanely proud of Kris for doing it. He is too humble, and would never brag about his accomplishments publicly, so I am more than happy to do it for him. He is the smartest, hardest working and handsomest guy I know (not biased).

So to sum it all up let me list all the options we currently have. It isn’t a huge list, but it is promising and exciting. Here are the four places we could possibly be moving next. We could:

Erie, PA

Pros: two residency programs here, lots of friends here, lots of fun family activities, the beach, houses are inexpensive.

Cons: all our friends might be moving soon, houses are old, it snows a lot.

Boardman, Poland & Youngstown, OH

Pros: beautiful and newer homes in our budget, brand new hospital, kris loved working there

Cons: felt like the middle of nowhere to me… I wrote more about Youngstown in this post.

Farmington, MI

Honestly I know nothing about Farmington. We are heading to Kris’s interview there soon, so I plan to do some exploring while he is at the hospital. Any insight on this area would be appreciated!

Yonkers, NY

Pros: near NYC, on the Hudson River, near the Hamptons, great location for my work as a blogger!

Cons: living costs are expensive, probably wouldn’t buy a home there.

Personal preference for me, based on location only, would probably be Yonkers and Erie tied, then Youngstown, and Farmington last (just because I know nothing about it yet). There isn’t really any residency option that horrifies me. Wherever we end up, I am sure we will find beautiful new places and friends.

I plan to love wherever we move next, hopefully as much as I LOVE Erie. Because we truly looooove Erie. How could I not love it? Just look at this beautiful mom squad I get to hang out with alllll the time.

So that is a basic update on our medical school situation. I will share more once we know more. We don’t find out where we are going till February or March… The waiting game is so suspenseful and I love it!

Which of those four towns would you choose?? Why???

  1. I found this blog after seeing the link on the voice app (great voice BTW). May I suggest Hawaii Tripler army medical center? I am a PA for the Army and married with 3 kids. Beach weather year around and beaches all around! The people are friendly and humble. They remind me of the people I served on my mission in Mexico. (my voice app name is mholmboy)

  2. You forgot to list North Saanich as a possibility. It heads the list of desirable Canadian locations to live PLUS it has family there who all dearly love you and your babes. Plus, then we’d get to spoil our great grands like nobody’s business.

  3. Erie, becasue you are so much more positive in your comments about that place. Friends come and go, but you will always have your family, which is most important. Good luck, don’t forget to leave it up to heavenly Father, He knows where you need to be.

  4. That’s exciting! Last year we were doing all the residency interviews and it’s such an exciting time. There are pros and cons to all of the places. Time will tell, and I really can’t wait to hear where you end up!

    1. Usually I am dying to know these kinds of things, but I am actually really enjoying the suspense of it all right now. Rotations are pretty laid back so I am just trying to enjoy this time, it really feels surreal that we are so close.

  5. Okay these photos of Zander are killing me. TOO cute 😍 Also I’m voting for NY! Would be such a great opportunity for you as a blogger! But anywhere is a good place as long as you are together ❤️ Can’t wait to see where you guys end up!

    1. I am totally biased to new york because of the blogger thing! But I think ultimately we will choose wherever is best for Kris’s career, since I can technically blog anywhere! More excuses to travel if we don’t go to a blogger friendly city 😉 😉
