Rock-A-Hula Waikiki: What To Expect

As a family we attended the Legends In Concert Rock-A-Hula show last week and had the best time. Before going I had NO idea what we were in for, so I thought I would let you all in on what to expect, the highlights of our visit and how it was bringing a toddler to the Rock-A-Hula. Plus theres some pictures at the end from an entertaining show Zoey put on for us at the beach. She pretty much keeps us laughing 24/7 these days.

What To Expect

There are so many ways to experience this show, so what to expect entirely depends on what package you buy. You can enjoy just the show, a premier cocktail package including free drinks and premium seating, the Terrace Luau – complete with a delicious dinner and hula dancers, a fancy stage side dinner package or the whole celebrity experience, including a green room meet and greet with the actors, lots of good food and appetizers, a backstage tour and more. We had the Premier Cocktail package plus a special backstage tour and appetizers in the green room. The green room was so extravagant and was definitely the highlight of our tour!

Highlights of the Rock-A-Hula

Without question the highlight of the Rock-A-Hula Legends In Concert show was the show itself. Our show featured Michael Jackson, Elvis, Celine Dion, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, a fire dancer, hula dancers and so much more. You never know what to expect with celebrity impersonators, but these performers were top notch.

I am a diehard Celine Dion fan. I grew up on her music and have been singing her songs since I was five. The Celine Dion singer blew me away. More often than not I felt like I really was at a Celine Dion concert. Zoey was totally mesmerized when Celine Dion (‘the princess’) sang My Heart Will Go On in a beautiful white gown.

The dancing was one thing that really caught me off guard. I expected good singing, but from the moment the show started to the moment it ended the stage was filled with super talented dancers as well. This thrilled Zoey since she LOVES to dance.

The other really fun part for me was the meet and greet afterwards. We got to meet all the star performers and take pictures with them. They were all really friendly and easy going.

Rock-A-Hula With A Toddler

I was a little nervous bringing Zoey, just because she can’t even sit through a whole kids movie at the theater. That is when it is a movie she loves. She was a gem the entire time though. I think she was just so enthralled by the dancers. The fact that it went past her bedtime probably helped, since she was a little more calm than usual.

The only hard part was that she doesn’t like loud noise. Luckily we brought a pair of headphones for her to wear just in case. They blocked out enough of the noise that she pretty much just chilled and stared at the stage the entire time. Afterwards she kept telling us how she loved the “Rock-A-HOOTA” because there were dancers in it.

Before the show we spent some time at Waikiki Beach where Zoey entertained us (and all the other beach goers) with a little show of her own. For some reason she decided it was absolutely hilarious to kick sand into her own face. She just kept doing it over and over again, yelling “watch me mama!!!” and “take a picture of me!!!”. She would kick sand into her face, I was actually pretty impressed by how high she can kick, then she would laugh hysterically and squeal at the same time.  Then she would do the whole thing again.

My favorite part was when she ran over and whispered to me, “mommy, the people are watching me.” I looked around to where she was looking and sure enough there was a group of people sitting on the beach, smiling and laughing as she did her kicks over and over again. It has been almost a week and I am STILL cleaning sand out of her hair…

We had such a fantastic time. I love Waikiki for the shopping, but had no idea there was a show like this right in the heart of it all. Without question it was a highlight of our visit and I can’t wait to return to the island one day and see the Rock-A-Hula again with TWO babies.

I was thinking the only thing that would make this show better would be an Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift impersonator. Which celebrities would you like to see in the show?? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Rock-A-Hula looks like a lot of fun. I had no idea this was in the center of Honolulu. That’s hilarious that Zoey said, “those people are looking at me.” I love all the pictures Rachael!

  2. What a great looking evening! So glad to learn a bit about it. Will definitely go when we are there next time!

    1. The energy never stops…. and when she gets tired she asks me to give her “more energy please” which is her way of asking for candy. Hahahaha. It keeps me entertained. xoxox
