Date Night!

I was just thinking the other day about when I used to do my hair and makeup every. single. day. I would wake up (whenever I wanted to), hop into the shower (for as long as I felt like) and then I had a whole routine. Half hour on hair, the same on makeup. I could spend all day choosing an outfit if I felt like it.

Now my mornings look more like this. I feed Zander whenever he wakes up, 3am, 5am, 7am. Zoey joins us in bed around 6:30 and every ten minutes or so yells, “IS IT WAKE UP TIME YET?!?!” I shush her before she wakes Zander and try to catch five more minutes of sleep. Every time she yells it feels like I was just barely drifting off. Eventually I give in and drag my tired body out of bed. Getting into the shower by myself is a miracle. Usually within a minute Zoey pops in and tells me to move over because it’s her turn. With the length of my to do list, I generally just skip hair and makeup all together and pray my sweet beautiful children let me sit at my computer for longer than five minutes uninterrupted, while I try and get some work done.

I envy my past self a little bit… Don’t take that the wrong way, I would choose my kids over my mornings any day. They are kind of priceless. BUT if I could have both – that would be heaven. I always hear internet moms talking about how you have to wake up before your kids so you can get your ‘magic morning’ (wake up before the kids), but lets be real people. With a newborn (he’s still a newborn, don’t dare try and tell me otherwise) who eats last at 11PM and first at 5:30AM – tell me when in the world are you supposed to find your ‘magical morning’ time????? It just doesn’t exist.

Kris doesn’t usually know when the doctor he is working with will let him go home, so when he surprises me by coming home early and asks if I want to go on a date, I don’t even bother with hair and makeup. I jump in some clean clothes and jump in the car! I know Kris doesn’t mind if I am wearing makeup or if I have spent extra time on my hair, but it makes me feel great about myself when I feel like I look somewhat different than the moment I rolled out of bed this morning.

Which is why I have come up with some ways to make the beautifying process a little easier on myself so when date night comes around the get out the door and go process is super quick and easy. And for all the busy moms and hard working ladies out there, I thought I would share my ideas for always looking your best, while spending the least amount of time in front of the mirror as possible!

1. Eyelash Extensions

These are so popular lately and it is easy to see why. When you have eyelash extensions you almost don’t even have to put on any makeup at all to look fabulous. Maybe just a little bit of blush or lip gloss. I still haven’t taken the leap and gotten some, but I plan to and envy all my friends who wear them! They look AMAZING and every person I have talked to says they save you so much time.

2. Hair Color

Maintain your hair color every couple weeks to a month! Vibrant hair color, without obvious grown out roots or breakage makes a big difference in your overall appearance. For me clean freshly highlighted hair is the difference between a messy bun, and leaving it down and letting it shine. I use Schwarzkopf Keratin Color to maintain my blonde hair, I get a shade that is very close to my own (using the perfect match color on the back of the box) because it allows me to easily touch up my hair without worrying about making a mistake. It adds vibrancy and beauty, but isn’t drastically different than my natural hair color. I also like that Keratin Color helps give your hair a fuller bodied look, doesn’t cause bad breakage like other hair colors and only takes 30 minutes once a month or so. You can get it at Target and save $2 using this Ibotta offer.

3. Organize Your Closet!

This could take a long time when you first start, but will save you so much time in the future. I have my entire closet organized by clothing type and even have parts of it organized by color (tank tops and other basics). It saves me so much time when I am planning an outfit and know exactly where to find everything.

4. Clear Your Complexion

Cut back on foods that cause breakouts. Dairy and sugar are two big ones. I know this one is really hard! But the combination of clear, clean skin, vibrant hair and eyelash extensions can have you looking radiant and ready to go at any moment.

5. Shower at Night

When you have kids waking you up at the crack of dawn begging for breakfast and a million other things, having one less thing to do in the morning can be super time saving. I shower at night almost 100% of the time. I wait till the kids are in bed so I can take a super long relaxing shower if I want, and I wake up the next morning feeling much more fresh and ready for the day.
