Surprise Vacation Day 1: Clearwater Beach

If you have been around me at all the past month you have heard me mention how much I have been CRAVING tropical weather. I actually considered abandoning Kris for a month and heading to Hawaii or Vanuatu, but in the end decided I would miss him too much. I know, I am kind of a baby, but I just hate being separated from my bestie.

But I also hate being separated from tropical weather. It creates some inner conflict when your one true love is stuck in medical school in the land of everlasting winter, but your other true love is kind of attached to the earth. You can’t force tropical weather and palm trees to come live with you, no matter how hard you try.

I always say there is nothing like the combination of sun, sand and water. There is just something addictive about it. I can’t get enough.

I dream, but in reality Kris spends SO much time working so hard in medical school, and the stress of planning a vacation in the midst of all the responsibilities he already has is something I would never force him to do. SO you can imagine how over the moon I was when Kris said to me casually on Tuesday, “Let’s fly to Florida this weekend. I have it off.”

MY MIND WAS BLOWN. Spontaneous vacation. Tropical weather. Beaches. Disney World. Visiting a place I have never been before. A husband who planned it all. SUN. SAND. WATER. Is there a better combination???? I don’t think so. Did I mention I have the best husband ever?

We booked last minute flights Tuesday, got in the car Thursday night and drove for a few hours to a hotel in Greensburg, where we used to live! It was fun driving through our old home town. Then we flew in to Orlando early Friday morning and drove straight to Clearwater beach. I did some shopping in a little surf shop on the beach and founded a few tops I am in LOVE with. Then we walked down the pier and played on the beach. On the pier all the birds were pretty tame! You could walk right up to giant storks and pelicans (I think thats what they were… pics below). On the beach Zander tasted sand for the first time and Zoey squealed in happiness for half hour straight while jumping waves. Next was the hotel, dinner and pool. Now everyone is relaxing.

I am SO excited for tomorrow. Zoey has no idea what is in store for her and I think the surprise is going to make her world.
