Taking Care of Me For Them

You guys all know I love to sing and write and take pictures, but one thing you may not know, I also LOVE to dance! If there was a scale from embarrassing to professional, my dancing would definitely be closer to the embarrassing side. But for me it isn’t about looking good, it is about having fun! Zoey and Zander both love to dance as well, so we have daily dance parties in our house to Frozen or Trolls music. We also just stocked up on ‘dancing dresses’ for Zoey from Little Adventures because she loves to dress up when we dance. Our dance parties can easily last up to an hour (longer if I followed Zoey’s orders). But usually around the 30 minute mark I start to get tired from all the jumping and spinning and running around.

The other day I was scrolling through Instagram after a particularly tiring (but super fun) dance party. Usually I look at pictures of cute kids or stylish outfits – but this particular day I found something extra inspiring. I came across the ‘taking care of me, for ___’ hashtag. It is a new social trend where you share the reason you are motivated to take care of yourself and your health. I clicked their hashtag, #TakingCareOfMeForThem, and discovered lots of people sharing what inspired them to take care of themselves.

Some people were motivated by their marriage, others by a beloved pet, some people by their children and some by ‘the future’. It was cool to see what pushed everyone to put their health first. For me, the motivation is family. I take care of me because I love my husband and want to be the best version of myself for him. I take care of myself to set an example for my children. It is important to me that they know it is ok to care for yourself first. I don’t think you can fully love and care for someone if you don’t take care of yourself a little bit first.

Here are a few things I try and do often (not every day) to take care of myself so I can be a better, happier and healthier person for my family:

– Turn on the Netflix Nanny and get some work done in the mornings.

– Wake up an hour before the kids and get done my biggest tasks for the day during that time.

– Disconnect from my phone for at least an hour or two a day to more fully connect with myself and my family

– Take time to eat something other than the kids crackers, I am bad at this one but it sure makes a huge difference when I get in at least one healthy meal a day!

– Go to bed before midnight, another one I am not great at….

– Take time to clean and organize the house just a little every day, I get stressed if the house gets out of control!

– Alone time when Kris gets home after a long day, all I need is 20 minutes of peace and quiet locked in our room and I come out feeling like a new woman!

When I take care of myself I am able to be the best version of myself for my family, and take better care of them. Being at the top of my health game gives me energy for all the most important things in life, like our daily dance parties. And who could live without a daily dance party to Disney music?! Not us!
