The Real Reason We Got A Hot Tub

We have always wanted a hot tub. I grew up with one in our backyard and Kris used it often since we hung out a lot. When I was pregnant with Zoey we lived with my parents and used their hot tub every day. I have some fun hot tub memories. Like the time my dad decided me and a boy were sitting too close in the hot tub. He casually stretched his legs out between us and forced us to move apart. And then acted like it was an accident. No wonder parents get the ’embarrassing’ label so often….

Or the time Kris thought it would be a good idea to have one of my brothers hold their breath under the water and jump out and scare me, as I was coming to join them. My brother shot out of the water like a rocket. He hit my lip SO hard my tooth almost went through it. And I had a huge fat lip for two weeks. As if that weren’t bad enough, Kris decided to film me crying after the incident. I married a good one guys.

If you have never lived with access to a hot tub daily, you probably don’t know what you are missing out on. So let me tell you a few reasons it is really great to own your own hot tub.

Side note – there are a lot of convincing arguments for hot tubs, but the real reason we finally jumped in and bought one had less to do with a hot tub, and more to do with our marriage relationship, I will share that reason last.

Ever get sore muscles?

Hot water actually increases blood flow and circulation, relaxes your muscles and eases pain. Unlike a hot bath you are able to immerse your whole body and float a little bit. The buoyancy gives some much need pressure relief to your aching joints.

Enjoy it year round.

Hot tubs are amazing all year. Even on a warm summer day it is super comfortable and relaxing. Even on our Hawaii vacation we spent a lot of time in the hot tubs at Turtle Bay Resort – you’d think hot weather would make a hot soak less appealing. It doesn’t.

Save Water

If you already take hot baths a lot a hot tub will actually save water. If you take care of it you only have to refill it every 3-6 months.

It’s A Personal Retreat

A spa is like having your own personal retreat in your backyard. It is rejuvenating, relaxing and cheaper than actually going to the spa every day.

PARTIES

It is also great for parties! I can’t tell you how many summer parties we had growing up that involved BBQ, hot tub and pool. I think we crammed up to 14 or 15 kids in our little hot tub. We even used it for winter parties when I was a teen. We would dare each other to jump into the ice cold pool late at night and then run as quick as we could to get back in the hot tub before we froze to death.

Date Night

There are a lot of good reasons to get a hot tub. But we are in medical school, living on a tight budget so I have been hesitant about the idea. Kris was always giving me lists of great reasons we should take the leap, but the one that finally won me over and convinced me to take the plunge was this: He said, “If we buy a hot tub we will sit in it every single day and talk.” When he said that I was like – OK, SOLD. Lets buy one yesterday.

Kris is gone 60+ hours a week and studies 90% of the time when he is home. I work pretty much full time on my blog and taking care of the kiddies. By the time we connect at the end of the day we are both exhausted and usually just sit and watch TV while playing on our phones. It is a bad habit and laziness on our part, but we are SO TIRED (read this post).

Our spa gives us a chance every day to abandon our phones and the TV, still get the relaxation we both need, but actually take time to talk and share the ups and downs of our day with each other. It is the perfect date night for the lazy/tired couples that want to stay home, but want to have a meaningful date night that isn’t just Netflix and chill. We have had no problem finding 15-30 minutes a day to soak together. I am happy to say that I actually feel like this purchase is strengthening our relationship during a time in our lives when we don’t get to see each other much at all.

SO if you are considering buying a hot tub and want to know the pros and cons, don’t talk to me. Because I am biased and can’t see anything bad about this decision.

Any other hard core hot tub lovers out there?? Oh wow 😂😂😂 I just typed that question and then reread it and thought I better rephrase it😳🙈 – what I meant to say is this – does anyone else LOVE hot tubs?

  1. I love that you can have a Netflix and chill night as date night in the hot tub. I would really love that since I dream of hanging on the deck at night, but I can’t take the cold no matter how many layers I wear. This will be perfect since my husband loves watching movies as well. https://www.marquishottubs.com/Livermore

  2. Beautiful photos! And yep, We do have an inflatable one. And it’s one of the best investments we ever made (I’m really sure we can call it an investment, it’s making our lifes so much better). So yes, I guess we are hot tub lovers 😉 😀
