Trouble Conceiving – Our Journey

While I have received compensation from Fertility Planit for this post, all opinions are my own. This is my personal story with trouble conceiving and does contain more mature content intended for couples who are trying to conceive. It may not be appropriate for younger readers.

Only a few people know about Kris and my journey the past few years with trouble conceiving. It is something really personal and sensitive that I only talked about with a very close few. I decided to share just a few details with you guys though in hopes that it would help another couple out there who may also be having trouble conceiving.

I come from a large family, I have seven younger siblings and we are all very close in age. I have a sister who is only 18 months younger than me and I could not have asked for a better built in best friend in the world. I wanted the same thing for my family so Kris and I started trying for a second soon after Zoey was born. We didn’t expect any trouble since we didn’t have to wait too long to become pregnant with Zoey (only about six months). Six months passed and nothing happened, and then another six months.

I was so confused because I felt like since we already had one child we should have no trouble conceiving a second. I started researching and discovered that secondary infertility is quite common and can be caused by a number of things including damage done to the uterus during labor or pregnancy, so I decided to go get everything checked out. We saw doctors and they said everything looked totally healthy and normal. We fell into the 20-30% of couples who are diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

At first I thought that was discouraging, at least if you know why you are having trouble conceiving you can do something about it, right? After some more reading and research I realized that was actually the most encouraging diagnosis the doctor could have given us. It meant that it could just be a matter of timing and patience.

Trouble Conceiving Is Not The End

Another six months went by and feeling discouraged I started doing more research. We all know how babies are made😉, but after some more reading I realized there can be a lot more to it than just sex. Obviously timing for ovulation is vital, there are other important aspects as well like reducing stress. I also discovered that you can utilize at home conception aids like The Stork.  After only two months of using The Stork method we were blessed to become pregnant with baby Burgess No. 2. I was so shocked and overwhelmed when after almost two years of trying we became pregnant naturally, without needing to resort to expensive fertility treatments.

The Stork works by keeping sperm inside of you for up to 24 hours, this encourages more of it to travel towards the egg. It is a simple, painless device that can be used during normal intercourse. Of course it does not guarantee pregnancy, but when timed to correlate with ovulation it definitely can help and encourage things along. After becoming pregnant so quickly with this method I definitely will be using The Stork when we try for baby number three… Even if you aren’t having trouble conceiving The Stork might be a good idea to help encourage things to happen according to the best timing for your family.

I know this topic is one that is extremely touchy for a lot of people. I don’t pretend to know what it feels like to never be able to have children. Two years of trying for baby number two just gave me a small glimpse of the heartache and frustration, I hope sharing my story can help someone else. I couldn’t have made it through those two years without talking to supportive friends who knew what I was going through! Feel free to share your stories, successes, sorrows and advice in the comments, sometimes just connecting with someone understanding can make a big difference.

xoxo,

Rachael
