Valentines Party + 4 Things I Want To Remember

Growing up my mom was the master at making every single holiday SO special. I think that is why I love celebrating so much. On Valentines we would each wake up with a basket full of handmade and handwritten Valentines cards, sweethearts, chocolates, cinnamon hearts, and all the Valentines candy you can find. I have SO many good memories of Valentines and I want to make sure Zoey does too.

SO … since Zoey is obsessed with parties I decided to plan a little Valentines party. I invited a bunch of her little friends and totally underestimated the wildness that 15 little toddlers could create. We decorated cookies and made Valentines cards. By the end it looked like a hurricane had blown through my house.

Three days later and I am still finding pink icing on the wall in random places hahaha. It was so fun and so worth the mess though. I wrapped plastic food wrap around the entire table before everyone got there and I was so glad I did! I think some of the kids decided to ice and sprinkle the table, not just the cookies.

One of my favorite things was watching one of Zoey’s little boy friends follow her around and help her with all her cookie decorating. She is not shy with most her buddies, but when he is around she is mute. 🙈 At church on Sunday he told his mom that he was calling her ‘Zo’. When his mom asked if she liked that he said, “I don’t know she never talks to me!” 😂 Kris is in primary with both of them and he said this little boy always does funny things just to make Zoey laugh. At the party, after helping with her cookies for like half hour, he walked up to me and said in frustration, “I keep talking to Zoey but she won’t talk to me!!!!” I asked Zoey why she wouldn’t talk to him and she responded, “I did talk to him! I said HI!” I don’t know if there is a little crush between them or what, but their ‘friendship’ is adorable to me!

Last few special memories of the Valentines party:

Before the party I did Zoey’s hair in her “teddy bear hair do” and then she requested that I face paint her face like a bear. I convinced her a heart on the cheek would be a good idea instead.

When her twin friends showed up she yelled to me, “Mommy MY TWINS ARE HERE!!!” She never even plays with the twins haha, but she thinks they are hers.

After everyone left she was really sad that one of her friends left a card they made, I told her they left it for her and she started jumping up and down for joy that someone made a card for her, it is still on the fridge.

When Kris and I were cleaning the kitchen I sent her out because there were sprinkles all over the floor and we needed to vacuum and mop. She held out her hand and had two candies in it and said in a panic, “BUT I wanted to give one to you, and one to daddy, and say you are the best mommy and daddy in the whole world!!!” 😭💗😭💗😭 Next time I will listen before I try and send her away…

  1. RACHAEL, 15 As in FIFTEEN!!! It is well past my “party” time with kids but I do well remember that back in the day we never took more than 12. Back then the rule was 12 or less and I’d be willing to bet a pile of $$ that most young people today would agree that if they were hosting a party for their kids 12 or less would be just fine. I’m serious ask your friends and see if I’m not right 12 or LESS. I’m smart.
