The official first day of fall is a few weeks away, but here in Erie, things are already starting to get chilly. This morning we walked outside, and Zoey shivered and asked me where summer went and if it was coming back. I am really hoping it comes back! It is definitely feeling like it’s time to start pulling out scarves, boots and jackets. I am scared for the winter this year, but I am trying to be positive and love everything this season has to offer.

In the spirit of embracing fall and all it brings, I thought I would share my first fall fashion post. I love to wear white, so today I am going to share how to transform 10 white summer styles into fall outfits, like the dress I am wearing in this post. With flats and a hat, it looks like the perfect outfit for the beach, but add a warm, knit sweater and booties, and you are ready for fall festivals. Many of you have heard the old rule, don’t wear white after Labor Day. That rule is definitely a thing of the past! White is an amazing color to rock this fall, and here are some great ways to do that.

10 Tips to Wear White this Fall

1. Transform a white summer dress with a fall cardigan.

White dresses aren’t just for the beach. Add a cardigan and the look is completely transformed.

2. Switch out your sandals with knee high boots when you wear a short, white dress.

At the beginning of fall, it is still warm enough that you can throw on a short dress. To transform the look and be more in-season, all you need is a pair of knee highs! This work also works with white shorts and cut offs.

3. Pair booties with your white jeans.

There is nothing that says fall like a pair of booties! White skinny jeans look fabulous with almost any color booties. Booties and white skinnies are definitely a good combo to rock this fall.

4. Use bleach to wash mud, snow and rain from white sneakers.

I used to pack up my white sneakers during the fall season – too much rain and mud! Then I found out you can easily wash your white sneakers using Clorox Bleach and water. Put on some disposable gloves and mix up 3 parts water to one part bleach. Then place your shoes on a protected surface. Use a rag to dip in the bleach mixture and spot wash your shoes. Rinse them with soap and water, and let them dry. Your shoes will be whiter than ever! Clorox Bleach has an advanced whitening formula for better whitening*, which is why I use it.

5. Under a white blazer wear a turtleneck.

Light white jackets feel especially geared towards spring. People tend to pack them away for fall. But if you keep them out and pair them with the right pieces, you can create a beautiful outfit! Swap your camisole for a tight sweater or turtleneck and instantly give your blazer a fall vibe.

6. Always have some Clorox Bleach on hand to wash your whites and keep them bright.

I used to be intimidated by bleaching my whites, but since I wear white all the time, I decided I needed to learn. Clorox Bleach with CLOROMAX promises to keep clothes whiter longer*, so I decided to give it a try. It is actually quite simple to use. Before you put your clothes in the washer, start the machine and add laundry detergent. Five minutes into the cycle, add half a cup of bleach to the water. Wait a second for the bleach to mix around and then add your laundry. Wash as normal. If you have a fancier washing machine than mine, you can just pour your bleach right into the bleach dispenser. I wish I had known how easy this was sooner!

7. Switch out tank tops and t-shirts for cozy sweaters with your white jeans.

This fall look is just too easy and stylish to say no to! Big knit sweaters are one of my favorite thing to wear. I have a huge pile of them that I have been meaning to pack away all summer. And now fall is almost here and they are still sitting in my closet… I wear one almost every day, so I am glad I will finally have a legitimate excuse.

8. Layer a chunky scarf over your light, white blouse.

Lighter tops can easily be transformed with a heavier scarf for a beautiful fall feel.

9. Pull off the white on white look by adding a leather jacket.

A leather jacket looks great over a white blouse with a pair of white skinnies. An all white outfit can be a little overwhelming for fall, but add a leather jacket and maybe some darker colored boots, and you are all set!

10. Apply perfume and deodorant before you get dressed to avoid staining. Apply makeup after.

I can’t tell you how many times I have pulled on a white top only to realize I got foundation all over the neckline! This is why I like to put makeup on after the white outfit. Perfumes go on before so that they have a minute to absorb into my skin. Fortunately, I have been able to completely remove foundation stains from my whites since I started using Clorox Bleach in my white loads.

I hope this gets your fall fashion creative juices flowing. For me, fall is so bittersweet. It is such a beautiful season. I love dressing up in layers and going to fun fall festivals. Apple picking, corn mazes, hot chocolate, and hay bale rides are just a few of the things I love about fall. The thing I don’t love is that we are just a little closer to the long winter ahead and farther from summer than any other time of the year. Thinking about all the fun fall styles I get to wear soon makes it easy to forget that winter is knocking.

  1. Hey, Rach, you taught me something I didn’t know about washing with bleach. I knew we kept you in the family for a reason. BTW, one of my favorite looks is that filmy white skirt with the cozy sweater. I love the contrast and I love how it looks on you.

  2. Such a great idea! I LOVE your pictures at the river. Gorgeous…and as unromantic as talking about bleach might be I have to admit that as a busy woman I would be lost without it! Thanks for the tips and inspiration.
