^She threw every penny in my purse into the fountain and squealed like it was the best moment of her life the entire time. ^Yes she is on the wrong side of that gate… She kept walking right under into the areas you aren’t supposed to go. And nobody was looking so instead of grabbing her I took a quick picture. Oops. ^She was quite proud that she got her own ‘chair’ on the subway. ^Couldnt leave the ‘brokey potty’ alone.

These pictures are from our spur of the moment trip up to Toronto last weekend. We took a trip to Casa Loma using our CityPASS. Casa Loma is a stunning castle near the heart of Toronto – we brought our car to Toronto but rather than driving in the busy city traffic and paying for parking we decided to take the subway to the castle. The train got us about five minute away from the castle and it was a nice walk the rest of the way. We go everywhere with a stroller but decided to leave it at the hotel this time and it is a good thing because we had to go up a HUGE flight of stairs to get up to the castle. I am sure there was a way around them but it would have taken a lot longer and of course if we had driven and parked in the castle parking lot we would have avoided them all together.
It was surprisingly chilly during our visit and so it gave me a chance to really layer up. Keeping track of Zoey and everything she needs on trips like this is enough to handle without being super bulky and bundled so I have developed a few layering tricks for staying warm while keeping my hands free and my arms flexible.
Winter Layering Hacks
- First, when planning tops think thin and skin tight for the base layers and warm, but loose and flexible for the top. Under this sweater I am wearing two layers, a tank top and a blouse. The fact that they are tight to my skin keeps in a lot of the heat, the added layer of a chunky knit sweater seals the deal and will keep you cozy on some of the chilliest days.
- Secret two is taking advantage of a wrap or blanket scarf, not only does the beauty I am wearing in these pictures add a bright pop of color to my outfit, it also doubles as a cozy blanket in case of a sudden gust of chilly wind.
- Hack number three – flexible leggings under the jeans. I do this all the time and if you get a nice thin pair like these no one can even tell.
- A winter outfit is not complete without a good beanie and some gloves, I somehow managed to forget to wear mine for the pics.. I wanted to so that you could see how they looked with this outfit and I left them stuffed in my purse the entire time… Ugh. BUT I got this hat and these gloves both in the ‘Go Pinot Go’ color and loved how they meshed with my scarf and knit sweater. If you are like me and use your phone all the time it is vital to get a pair of gloves like the ones I got so that you can text and use your phone without having to take your gloves on and off constantly.
These are just a few layering tips for staying cozy this season that I hope will help you as you run around on all your holiday errands. And if any of you readers are planning a trip to Toronto soon I would definitely recommend checking out Casa Loma, it was absolutely stunning inside and out. More than 85 rooms to explore and you can even go way up into the tower, which was kind of scary for me since I don’t do well with heights, but Kris loved it. It is a real castle that has been restored to look like how it originally would have been and exploring inside is like going back in time. I only wish we had had more time, we went about an hour before closing and we definitely could have explored a lot longer. What we saw was totally worth the visit though.
Well people, stay warm and have fun as we come into this beautiful, festive, winter season. Love you all!! xoxoxo
