When your teenage brothers that you haven’t seen in over a year are coming to town and you want to surprise them, what do you do? Buy a whole bunch of candy obviously! My brothers and dad arrived three days ago (the day after Zander was born!). I have been thinking for weeks of how to welcome them. BOOing them with DIY paper coffins filled with candy seemed like the best option since it is almost Halloween. I got the idea from BooItForward.com where you can download and print BOO cards with instructions on how to BOO your favorite friends this season. Needless to say they were excited to find the candy.

Now my brothers are trying to decide which of their friends to BOO. Luckily I have lots of left over supplies from making these kits. Hopefully sometime this week we will be able to make some up together. The DIY paper coffins were SO easy to make, and my brothers thought they were really cool… Which obviously means they are really cool. All you need is a black poster board and tape. Oh, and a whole ton of candy!

BOOing your friends is easy and fun. I will explain it in detail below. Basically all it comes down to is making your BOO Bundle, secretly delivering it and BOOing it forward!

How To Make A DIY Paper Coffin BOO Kit To BOO Your Friends

What You Will Need

  • A ton of candy! I got M&M’S®, SNICKERS®, TWIX®, Skittles®, Starburst®, Life Savers® & Cheez-Its® from the seasonal section at Walmart. Most of the candies came in variety bags so I actually only bought a couple bags of candy.
  • From the American Greetings® section of Walmart
    • Halloween Pumpkin & Ghost Stickers
    • Black & Orange Tissue Paper
    • Spiderweb Cellophane
    • Multi Pack of Candy Corn and Ghost Cards
    • Candy Corn print Cellophane Bags
  • Black Poster Board (1 sheet is good for 2 coffins)
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Orange & Green Popsicle Sticks
  • This DIY Paper Coffin Pattern

How To Put You DIY Paper Coffin BOO Kits Together

  1. Print out the coffin pattern and cut out the pieces.DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  2. Cut out the coffin pieces from the poster board.
  3. Lay the pieces flat and assemble the sides of the coffin in the appropriate places around the edge of the coffin base.DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  4. Tape everything together! It is kind of confusing to explain, but really straight forward to do. Just start by taping the edges of the coffin to the base, then one by one prop up the sides and tape them together. NOTE: make sure all the tape is on the inside of the coffin where no one will see it!DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  5. Put pumpkin face stickers on the mini TWIX® bars and ghost stickers on the mini SNICKERS® bars.DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  6. Put a few pumpkin and ghost stickers on the black poster board and cut around them so you have little pumpkin and ghost tags and tape a few of them onto the orange and green popsicle sticks.DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  7. Stuff the candy corn goodie bags full of Skittles®, Starbursts® & Life Savers® and tie with a twist tie, add one of the pumpkin tags to the tie!DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  8. Cut a square out of the spiderweb cellophane and then put some M&M’S® in the middle, pull the cellophane up around the M&M’S® and wrap a twist tie around it to create another goodie bag.
  9. Fill your DIY Paper Coffins with all the goodies you have created and some snack size bags of Cheez-Its®. I think the gift cards with a personal note add a nice touch as well and look adorable. Use the orange and black tissue paper to stuff under and around your goodies to hold everything in place.DIY Paper Coffins by Rachael Burgess
  10. Print out the ‘You’ve Been BOOed’ cards and place them in the package so your friends can ‘BOO It Forward!’dsc_0090-copy dsc_0098-copy
  11. Secretly deliver your BOO bundles.

That is basically all there is to it! My brothers are enjoying the candy now, but I keep reminding them to save some for October 11th – that is the day Ghostbusters® comes out at Walmart and we are planning to get it and have a family movie party! If you are as excited about this as my teenage brothers you can preorder it on Blu-ray or DVD now! Ghostbusters® is also available on VUDU

  1. First of all congrats on the new bundle of joy! Second these coffins are awesome and turned out fantastic. So easy to do I think we might need to make some for some deserving teacher at school.
