Finding Out I Was Pregnant & How I Told Kris

I will never forget the morning I found out about Zander, we had been trying to get pregnant for what felt like a LONG time (post about that story here). I was sitting on a mattress we had set up in our living room temporarily, watching Zoey play. The mattress was on it’s way to the basement because we had just gotten a new one. Little did we know it was going to stay in the living room, and become my temporary home, while I was on bedrest for months on end. Thank you, debilitating nausea.

This particular morning I noticed Zoey holding a baby doll she rarely played with. She was gently rocking it to sleep. She was so caring and tender with it. I had never seen her take care of one of her baby dolls in this way and I was really touched. I couldn’t help but think what an amazing big sister she would be. At that moment it also hit me that I was feeling just slightly nauseas. I had no plans to take a pregnancy test that day, but I felt inspired by Zoey. Spur of the moment, I went upstairs and took a test.

I will never forget looking down and seeing positive sign on the test. I instantly crumpled to the floor in tears (of joy). Zoey got so worried and ran over to me and gave me a hug, “You ok mommy?” she asked. I told her that I was ‘happy crying’ because there was a little baby inside my tummy. I didn’t expect her to get it, but she did. She was so excited to feel my belly and say hi to the baby. That is another thing I will never forget about my ‘moment of truth’. It was so obvious that Zoey knew and understood what was going on, and she was really excited. Good things can happen when you least expect them… Even though we were planning to be pregnant with Zander, it was still SO unexpected!

Finding out you are pregnant is a pretty life changing moment. For me taking the pregnancy test is intricately tied into that moment. There are so many emotions involved, I can’t imagine living without access to a home pregnancy test! 5 Creative Ways To Tell Your Significant Other You Are Pregnant

1. Write “hello daddy” on your stomach. This is how I announced it with Zoey and since it was so unexpected I got a great reaction. I wrote a post with more details about that here.

2. If it is your second, find a little T-shirt that says, “Best Big Sister” or “Best Big Brother” and have your other child wear it! I got a shirt like that for Zoey and showed Kris. At first he was like, cute shirt… and then after a second it clicked and he was like, wait.. WHAT?!?! If you like the shock factor like I do this one is good!

3. Get a mug that says “we are pregnant” inside on the bottom. He will get a nice surprise when he finishes his drink!

4. Make a puzzle that says, “you are going to be a daddy” and have him put it together!

5. Let your hubby know he has won the “baby lottery” with a cute DIY scratch off card.
