DIY Frozen Party | Easy & Beautiful Frozen Cake | Frozen Party Games

I am going to share most of the pictures of Zoey’s party in a separate post here. This post focuses on the party prep and includes a quick tutorial for anyone who wants ideas for an easy, inexpensive, DIY frozen party!

DIY Frozen Party Decor

I wanted Zoey’s party to be kid friendly, but not tacky. So rather than buying Frozen party decorations I bought decorations in Frozen colors. I bought different shades of blue and white tissue, tablecloth, streamers, dishes, etc. The only actual Disney Frozen thing I bought was the Olaf piñata. Basically I combined a kid friendly theme with a classy and stylish look.

Since it is getting close to Christmas I also went to the Christmas section of the store I found snowflake tags for the goody bags and a snowflake Christmas Ornament for my cake topper. I also bought blue, ice themed, wrapping paper from the Christmas section.

DIY Frozen Cake

What You Will Need

  • Two Blue Cake Mixes
  • Two White Cake Mixes
  • 1 Can Blue Icing
  • 2 Cans White Icing
  • Small Round Cake Pan (I used two so the baking would go quicker!)
  • Icing Bag & Tip To Make Roses (I forget what the tip is called, if anyone knows let me know in the comments)
  • Cake Display Tray
  • Snowflake Ornament Or Other Cake Topper **optional**

How To Make Your DIY Frozen Birthday Cake

  1. Make up the cake batter according to the directions on the box.
  2. Bake one round white cake and one round blue cake according to the directions.
  3. Mix half white and half blue cake mix in a separate bowl and cook in round cake pan according to the directions. You should have three different colored cakes!
  4. Once the cakes have cooled spread some white icing on the cake display pan and place the darkest blue cake on top. Put a layer of white icing on top of that cake and put the next blue cake on top. Lastly layer more icing and the white cake on the very top.Easy DIY Frozen Party Cake, Frozen Party Games & Frozen Party Decorations by Rachael Burgess
  5. Create roses by swirling out from the center of the rose. Start at the base of the cake with the blue icing. For the next row of roses mix in some white icing, this creates the ombre effect that is on the inside of the cake as well. For the next layer add even more white icing to the blue. Do the last layer and the top of the cake with white roses.Easy DIY Frozen Party Cake, Frozen Party Games & Frozen Party Decorations by Rachael Burgess
  6. Add a cake topper if desired.Easy DIY Frozen Party Cake, Frozen Party Games & Frozen Party Decorations by Rachael Burgess
  7. Wah-la! You have a beautiful, ombre, Frozen cake that you made yourself! Cooking the cakes took the longest for me. Icing it only took about 15 minutes. It looks much more complicated and fancy than it is!!

Easy Frozen Party Game Ideas

The Ice Cube Melt

This is an easy and fun game for a Frozen party. Simply freeze something small inside of an ice cube for each child, like a snowflake piece of confetti. Right before the game starts put the ice cubes in a bowl of cold water. Allow each kid to each fish for one. Have them put their ice cubes in a small cup, we bought disposable blue shot glasses. Once the ice cube melts enough that they can get out the thing on the inside have them them trade it in for a prize!

Cupcake Decorating

I made the extra cake mix from the birthday cake into cupcakes. We got a ton of blue, sparkly and white sprinkles as well white and blue chocolate balls, mini marshmallows and icing and let the kids go to town decorating their frozen cupcakes! We taped a disposable tablecloth to the floor and let the kids sit on it to decorate, this made clean up super easy!

Chalk Play

If you are entertaining a younger crowd sometimes you don’t even need games, just a few entertaining activities. Zoey’s party was mostly toddlers. We put a bowl of chalk out on the deck and they had so much fun decorating the porch from top to bottom!

Other fun ideas could be traditional party games with a frozen spin – like ‘pin the nose on Olaf’ or ‘carrot bobbing’ or a piñata like we did!
