Baked Blooming Onion Recipe (Healthier & Yummier Alternative)

It has been a minute since I shared an easy and delicious recipe for all my on-the-go readers, looking to save time, and eat well. Today I have a good one for you to make up for that, it is a Baked Blooming Onion recipe, a healthier (and yummier) version of the traditional fried blooming onion recipe. I have one secret ingredient that makes this baked blooming onion recipe better than all the others. The reason it is the best blooming onion recipe has to do with it being my favorite season of the year right now. Not summer , Vidalia Onion season!!

Have you heard of Vidalia Onions before? I hadn’t realized what a unique and amazing ingredient they were till just recently when they sent me a special box of these sweet treats. Vidalia Onions are only in season from April-August and only grown in Georgia! Another interesting fact about Vidalia Onions: they are the mildest of all onions because they are extremely low in pyruvic acid! They really are one of a kind. Since they can only be enjoyed for a few more weeks, it is the perfect time to grab a few and incorporate them into as many meals as you can. I particularly love them in my baked blooming onion recipe because they are sweet and crispy.

This baked blooming onion recipe only takes about 5 minutes to prepare, and is the perfect party food! Vidalia Onions can be enjoyed in so many other ways though. The crisp, sweet crunch and mild flavor makes them perfect raw on burgers or subs. I also love them as onion rings! Mmmmmm. Another favorite is in French Onion Soup, since they lend themselves well to the sweet profile. You can use Vidalia Onions to replace onions in any recipe. Just use them as you would regular onions, and enjoy the extra goodness they bring to each bite. Now that I have tried them, I am sad to see them go at the end of the summer! I’ll be counting down the weeks till next April, and enjoying them as much as I can till they are out of season the end of August.

What is your favorite recipe using onions? Have you ever tried Vidalia?
