How To: Mommy & Me Bracelets

Becoming a mom is life changing in so many ways. The moment you see that baby you know that you would literally do anything to keep them safe and happy. The mother bear instinct to protect your child kicks in instantly. Nobody can be the perfect parent, but I do everything I can to make sure Zoey has the best food, education, clothing and of course a whole lot of LOVE.

It starts with the really small things, like choosing the best diapers. I am a die hard pampers lover and although Zoey is totally potty trained I have left over Pampers Premiums on hand for whenever we decide to have another baby. It also includes the really big things, like being there when your child needs to cry and needs a cuddle, even if it is at 2am. Sometimes Zoey wakes up in the middle of the night with a nightmare and for a moment I think of how tired I am and feel frustrated, and then the moment I see her face I just melt. There is nothing I would rather do than hold her in my arms and make all her fears go away.

Pampers started a campaign to encourage mothers to make a promise to their child and create something that will always remind them of that promise. I felt so inspired and touched by this idea and decided I wanted to participate. My #MothersPromise is to always be there. It is simple, but in a world of so much technology and distractions it is easy to become distanced from those close to you in day to day life. Together Zoey and I made ‘friendship bracelets’ that represent that promise. She loves crafts and could not have enjoyed the time together more. She is at an age where she knows not to put small things in her mouth and so I wasn’t worried about her choking on a bead, but I wouldn’t leave any young child alone with small beads, they can look pretty enticing! On my bracelet I put ZOEY to remind me of my number one priority. On her bracelet I put the word MINE, the name of her favorite lullaby, something that will remind her of how much I love her.

What you will need:

  • Beads you love
  • Monogrammed Letter Beads
  • Thread
  • End Clasps
  • Scissors

To make the Bracelets:

  1. First measure the thread so it goes twice around your wrist and add about four inches. How to make mommy & me friendship bracelets with Rachael Burgess
  2. Slide an end clasp onto the thread, fold it in half so the end clasp hangs in the middle, tie a knot with the doubled thread where your bracelet should end (at about the length of your wrist). How to make mommy & me friendship bracelets with Rachael Burgess
  3. Choose a word that is meaningful to you and one that is meaningful to your child, something that will remind you of your #motherspromise, set it out in the center of a plate and then use beads you love to design your bracelet around it, use the knotted thread to measure the length. How to make mommy & me friendship bracelets with Rachael Burgess How to make mommy & me friendship bracelets with Rachael Burgess
  4. Once you have it all laid out string the beads on and tie off the other end of the clasp at the end.How to make mommy & me friendship bracelets with Rachael Burgess
  5. You are DONE!

Zoey and I absolutely love our bracelets and have been wearing them ever since we made them. What do you guys think of this challenge, have you made a ‘mothers promise’? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I love love love this idea! Super cute! I had a hard time trying to think of a way to represent my promise that I could keep in front of me forever (or as long as possible). Haha. I like that we both thought of stuff that our kiddos could do with us. 🙂
