Finding time for relaxing during pregnancy is so vital, but can be so difficult. Especially when you are chasing a toddler around. I heard this quote the other day, “you cannot care for others, until you have cared for yourself”. It makes sense, but in the rush of life it is so easy to forget to take the time to adequately care for your own needs. When you are pregnant it is even more important to care for yourself, your health and the health of your baby are so interconnected during this time. Both lives become more fragile and things that could normally go unnoticed for a few days, like not drinking quite enough water, can pose serious health risks to you and your baby. These are just a few things I do that help me take the me-time I need during pregnancy.

Read A Book

Although I love reading, I rarely take the time to do it. The reason is because I get so into my books that it can be hard to put theme down. Pregnancy is a great excuse to indulge a little, let your kids watch TV a little longer while you read another chapter and sip some water. Or just let the dishes sit and wait. Even while you are sitting down your body is working over time to create and grow a little human, so you technically can never be ‘lazy’ or inactive during this time. Take advantage of that! Right now I am reading the book Cinder and love it.

Prenatal Yoga

This one has been great for me as well. The farther along you get in your pregnancy, the more aches and pains you will have. It can even become more difficult to breath as your uterus forces your organs upwards, giving your lungs a lot less space. Taking time to breath deeply and stretch can be extremely relaxing during pregnancy. This is one my toddler loves to participate in as well. There are some great prenatal yoga routines on Grokker, this is where I go for all of mine!

Tea

Highly caffeinated teas and coffee should be avoided during pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up this rejuvenating habit altogether. There are plenty of wonderful options out there for you during pregnancy. I love TeaMi Relax, it is a loose leaf tea that promotes relaxation and rest at the end of a long day. Use it in one of these handy TeaMi tea infusers. It is the perfect way to unwind.

Get Out in Nature

Even on some of my best days, I often don’t feel up to getting dressed and going outside, but every time I do it really lifts my spirits and gives me more energy and motivation for the day. If you have kids this is a great way to include them in your relaxing during pregnancy. Don’t go on a long strenuous hike, but bring them to the beach so you can relax and take in the beautiful scenery while they play.

These are my favorite things to do to help me with relaxing during pregnancy. What have you done that works for you?

  1. Your top knot bun is probably the cutest one I’ve ever seen! And those leggings! And I just finished the book you’re reading– what did you think? You are such a cute little pregnant lady! I love it! My sister just had a baby in April! All this new information is so helpful for my future.
