Why I Love Music by Rachael Burgess

Why I Love Music

Tracking PixelThe whole reason I started this blog is because I love music, but I realized the other day that I haven’t taken the time to share why I love music so much. I thought that since I have been blogging for over a year now it is probably about time that I shared some background behind why I love music. I was motivated to share my story when I heard about the DieHard “From The Start” competition. DieHard is sponsoring my story today, a story that I am really excited to share with you all!

My parents say I was singing before I could even talk. For me my love of music started with my dad singing me to sleep every night. He would let each of us kids choose one song before bed, his voice would be the last thing I heard before I drifted off. I loved that. He introduced me to Céline Dion and Josh Groban and so many other classic artists that inspired my love of music. Mostly though, it was his voice that I idolized and that inspired me to learn how to sing myself.

From as young as I can remember I was always taken aback by the amount of emotion a song could make me feel. If I had to choose ONE reason why I love music so much, that would be it. I love feeling the intense emotions that come along with a really heartfelt piece of music.

The most therapeutic thing in the world for me is to sit at the piano and sing or write songs that relate to the way I am currently feeling. The other thing I love to do is put on a pair of headphones and blast a song that reflects my current mood as loud as it can possibly go. I love it when you can literally feel the music echoing throughout your body. My dad helped me see the beauty in the emotion behind music from such a young age. Loving music really just feels like a part of who I am.

I can’t really pinpoint an exact moment I decided I loved music. I guess my story is that it has just always been a part of me. Living without music would be like living without one of my limbs, I would feel like something was missing.

I am really excited to share my story as part of the DieHard competition. On the contest page it says “THERE ARE FANS.
AND DIEHARD FANS. MUSIC, SPORTS, EXTREME KNITTING — IT DOESN’T MATTER. IF YOU ARE ONE, YOU KNOW IT.” I guess that is how I feel about music. From all the Disney songs I have belted at the top of my lungs, to the annoying way I correct peoples lyrics when they sing, and from the way I tend to express myself better in music than in words, to the countless times music has touched me to tears, there is just no denying that music will always be a vital part of my life.

I realized while writing this post it is actually really hard to express exactly why I love music. Hopefully what I did write shed a little more light on why I love music. Right now DieHard is searching for the most DieHard fans of EVERYTHING in their “From The Start” competition. From now till December two winners will be awarded the ultimate fan experience every month. Winners get the custom prize of their choosing, worth up to $4000! All you have to do is go to their contest page and let them know what you are a DieHard fan of and you could win.

  1. It’s great music has been such a big part of your life! 🙂 I agree with how certain songs can make us feel different emotions – I like a wide range of music, even though I have no singing ability I like to sing along too 🙂
